It’s T20 World Cup semi-final time in the City of Churches as India play England at the Adelaide Oval. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7pm (AEDT).
Losing Ravindra Jadeja was a big blow for India, but the loss of Jasprit Bumrah before the tournament was on another level. Suddenly, India weren’t expected to make the semi-finals, let alone win. Yet here we are, with India topping their group in the Super 12s and now two wins away from lifting their second T20 World Cup.
The batting still remains a slight worry; most of the top four are getting the runs, but skipper Rohit Sharma continues looking shockingly out of form. He also had an injury scare at the Adelaide Oval nets in the lead-up to this game, but is set to play the semi-final.
However, Sharma needs to step up with the bat instead of leaving Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav too much to do.
On the bowling front, India’s seamers have been outstanding and having Hardik Pandya as the fourth quick is a blessing. Ravichandran Ashwin found some form with the ball against Zimbabwe, not being afraid to toss the ball up and take wickets.
After a slow-ish start, England have gotten some momentum at the right time this tournament. However, there is no doubt the English have looked uncomfortable chasing this World Cup – a rare trait considering they usually love chasing in T20 cricket.
England’s T20 record against India in ICC tournaments and all T20 internationals is against them, as India hold the upper hand in both aspects.
Captain Jos Buttler has been underwhelming with the bat for most of the tournament, and needs to lead from the front to take England to the final. Sam Curran’s death bowling this World Cup has been outstanding, and his overs at the back end could be the difference.
Prediction
With the short square boundaries in play, England start slight favourites. However, India have the bowling attack in order to keep England quiet with the bat.
Sharma has plenty of experience when it comes to winning tournaments, having won five IPL titles, a T20 tri-series and an Asia Cup. However, this is his biggest test as skipper.
With the experience Sharma has, India should get the job done in a last-ball thriller.

he certainly knows how to drive standards while building a happy environment. mind you, with the Aussie women, he had the elite talent - so he made a great team even greater (almost perfect). would love to see how he goes with a struggling team, young players etc. but yes, a great coach and a pretty humble and chill guy

First time I saw a sports team getting literally annihilated on the field. Muscular Hales muscled his side into the finals, wow.

The hours of training outside a Bristol nightclub taught this England team to come out swinging.

India and Australia both need to review their approach to T20. It's completely outdated. England a far better side than us so probably fair they went through

"Tipped England by 20." So technically, you lost your tip? Much $$ riding on that? - Remember, gamble responsibly.

Thank you all for joining. England - great game of cricket, stamping their authority early in the contest and never letting go. India - Yes they will be disappointed with the hammering, but it’s no easy feat to make the semi final of a T20 WC without Bumrah and Jadeja. That being said, I personally feel Rahul Dravid’s time is up. All talk and nothing to back it up. Predicting early that if he remains coach in 2023 WC, India will face a group stage exit.

Gotta make a congratulatory comment for Matthew Mott. I wanted him after Langer resigned, as he had a great relationship with CA and the current skippers of Australia. Instead, he’s gone to England and continues to dominate white ball tournaments as coach for fun. The greatest white ball coach of all time IMO

MATCH SUMMARY - India 6/168 (20 overs) lose to England 0/170 (16 overs) by 10 wickets and 24 balls to spare I said England had to go hard in the powerplay to stay in the chase. They went hard throughout the whole innings and gave India no chances. Bar the death bowling, it was all England this game. Outstanding game of cricket for the Poms. They will fly to England and face Pakistan on Sunday at the MCG in the final which will be called by Stuart Thomas.
