The final day of a frustrating first Test between Pakistan and Australia is here. Join The Roar for live scores from 3:45pm AEDT.
A flat pitch, bad light and a wet outfield have all but sealed the fate of this Test Match.
After six wickets fell on the opening three days we did have five wickets fall yesterday but it’s not enough to suggest that this pitch will turn into a minefield.
Australia resumes on 7 for 449 in their first innings. That’s right it’s still the first innings!
They’re 27 runs behind and you’d expect they’ll try and get a quick lead and see what damage they can do with the ball.
Pakistan have lost matches from impossible positions before including a Test against Australia at the SCG in 2010 when they were 1 for 50 chasing 176, however there was a lot more in that pitch and we weren’t still in the first innings on the fifth day in that one.
A draw is inevitable but let’s just try and enjoy the long and winding road ahead as a draw can’t be agreed on between teams until the final hour or a minimum of 83 overs in the day.

How have the LBW laws been changed over the years, covered pitches and the like, even the change in equipment would affect stats. Imaging Bradman using one of the railway sleepers that passes for a bat these days. He would not be able to lift it let alone play a stroke. Baseball tweaked itself too but Babe Ruth could come back today, pick up a bat and participate in a modern game just like he did 100 years ago. I would not be so bold to say he would enjoy the same success but it still the same recognisable game. I could elaborate further but I'm at work and have to get moving!

Embarrassed by this pitch. even more by the tactics of pakistan. Someone tell them it is not a Waugh era Australian team you are too scared than you should be.

Why does posterity need all those runs?

The best we got out of this is that Cummins is a lacklustre coach and that our batsman are not in the Subcontinentelese frame of mind. ------- WWWD?

It's a meaningless test yes, and Pakistan probably were ensuring they didn't lose, but in doing so they've gotten lots of runs into their batsmen, blunted our bowlers and got one over our batsmen by actually bowling them out on that track. Will it have any impact?, it remains to be seen, but only one side got any positives out of that game and it wasn't Australia.

If Lyon hasn't learnt after playing 106 tests, then I guess it's time to move on from him. Swepson is a leg spinner which is the hardest art in cricket. Most wrist spinners blossom around 30 or after that. Yasir Shah of Pakistan is a prime example of that.

Do we, though? It's nice and easy. Why go to the markets to buy a bunch of random ingredients to make a difficult recipe over 6 hours that could be easily stuffed up when you can go make a Vegemite sandwich at home and watch Netflix instead?

I'm with ya on mental application. Test cricket is hard. Pakistan were under pressure to perform into their home stage. Cummins under pressure in first away series as skipper. Debate about the bowling line up. Aussies still reeling from the thousands of articles on JL. I reckon Pakistan would take confidence from that. They will pick the same XI and have an extra day's rest. We will debate who and why should be picked. Australia will he bullish but that will be bull.

Good to see cricket in Pakistan but that pitch was a joke. Cheap cheap runs and in the end a waste of time. Love test cricket but just could not be bothered watching.

At the end both Pakistan and Australia will lose 8 vital Test Championship Points due to this meaningless draw, what is the use of all those centuries?

Countries serving up roads like this where there is essentially no chance of a result should be sanctioned heavily, with fines, loss of test championship points, suspension of captain etc.

That's the kind of pitch that India and Pakistan played each other on in tests throughout the 1980s in both countries.

The roar sent my first attempt to the politburro. It was the d word to describe Cummins. Who knew that would set them off?

100%. Meaningless test. Pakistan were afraid of losing hence the concrete pitch.
