Virat Kohli waits for review to prove he's been clean bowled

By The Roar / Editor

Virat Kohli was dismissed for his 11th duck in his Test career by England all-rounder Moeen Ali in the second Test between India and England.

Kohli only lasted four balls on a pitch that was offering plenty of turn on the first morning. The Indian skipper simply couldn’t believe the ball had spun that much and not gone over the top of the stumps.
He stood his ground and made the umpires also second guess what they’d just seen. The umpire review showing that Kohli had indeed been clean bowled.

Again Jacko, even if the 'authorities' determine parameters and penalties, it doesn't necessarily mean those sanctions will go far enough for you, but I may be more than happy.

True I-to-I but for every person who is removed incorectely there are many who get away with it. It can get quite bad at junior matches these days from parents and spectators etc and whilst those 5 guys who were accused of racism were falsely accused and removed I can assure you that having been to many sports matches all around the world verbal abuse by spectators is hardly something that is rare.....And how can the authorities expect fans to behave with class when the players are abusing each other? Lets make the stump mikes part of the coverage.....Lets see if the on-field stuff is actually part of the emtertainment or if its just grubby derogratory abuse!

Sometimes fans get kicked out and even when bystanders plead with officials that they are punishing the wrong people, it doesn't matter to the officials because they have the moral high ground and authority to arbitrarily decide wrong doing. Ask the five spectators at Sydney forcefully removed from paying seats for alleged verbal abuse, despite the protestations of an Indian fan in front of them telling authorities it wasn't them. Judge, jury, executioner of innocent bystanders on the basis that we must protect from perceived abuse. five young Australians wrongly accused, no pleas heard and their hard earned wasted as over zealous stewards of decency act with impunity. It's all very well to have rules and laws, but as I said, who is deciding what is abuse? Commentators adding their sensationalism to muted words and gestures on turned down stump mics?

2021-02-16T07:45:53+00:00

No Steve waugh saying that isnt verbal abuse...The verbal abuse would be if he repeated it every time he played against him.....And I feel the qld gov looking at these laws is extremely relevant as if its illegal out in public then it will be illegal on a cricket field...or do you propose that Cricketers or sportsmen and women in general should be exempt from abuse laws? I mention the women because we see very little verbal abuse in womens sprot yet its competitive and combative...Just without the abuse...So if we know its not needed then why is it accepted? On the TV kids see and hear these things and go and do it in their own age group comps and get told off for doing just what their hero's are doing......Sorry but bullying, abuse, etc isnt acceptable for anyone...... And yes we cant always contrl what the kids hear or what we find acceptable but if a fan is abusive they get kicked out...Its time that the same rules applied to the players...

I think the detractors were making that point, it was designed for India who bowl and bat on these surfaces and allows them to square the series.

Willowwiz, we’re discussing what did heppen. You can spitball any vague reference to what an Aussie may have done, based on your own bias, but I’m still trying to work out how this turned into a moral lesson about New Zealand virtue about being gracious world cup losers! Aussies have learned far more by winning 5 of those.

Differences of opinion is what drives debate and I assume why you’re here in the first place. The ‘problems’ stem from one of the words I used in the last sentence – assume! I don’t know you, you don’t know me, you don’t know my reasoning for comment, I dont know your motivation for a vehement argument, you don’t know if we hold the same opinion and I’m playing devils advocate to find out what others think. Having said that, your mention of possible Qld verbal abuse laws has very little relevance to a cricket field other than the desire for rulemakers to determine that sportsmen have to be dispassionate role models while playing sport which requires passion. You’d know as well as anyone that taking a vital wicket elicits spontaneous excitement in fieldsmen and sometimes anger or disbelief by the batsmen. Those necessary laws in Qld – to protect vulnerable victims – though will come with the ability for defendants to fight charges wrongly brought and the right of appeal. Your desire to wipe out any player or spectator who crosses your moral line because it affects your sensibilities makes you the Qld government, the court and the gaoler. So the line is actually up to the interpretation of the individual. If Steve Waugh says to ‘Herschelle Gibbs, you just dropped the world cup’ is that verbal abuse under your laws? He didn’t have to say anything, but decided to have an opponent thinking of something else rather the task at hand. So is it verbal abuse? He didn’t swear at him, didn’t abuse his family, didn’t scream in his face, wasn’t visually menacing. Are those who see that as gamesmanship perpetuating sledging and crossing your verbal abuse line? All of those things illicit responses from spectators, as is desired in televised sport, not all responses will meet your sensibilities….or mine.

it's the opinion of a man who averaged over 50 in test match cricket, a man who actually played against both NZ and Aus, not the opinion of a fanboi, biased and fawning! Anyway NZ are still whining about the underarm from nearly 50 years ago, and Nigel Llong and the hot spot, and the Voges no ball. They are also still whinging about the 1995 rugby world cup final! I agree the Baggy Green's could do well in noting how the Black Caps have been able to cleverly shape their public image as darlings of the game, while at the same time employing, as respected NZ journalist Mark Reason has called it, the tactics of death threat bowling, especially when playing the minnow sides such as the Bangles.

That's just one man's opinion - and it's far far from the truth. The rest of the world is pretty clear on who's better behaved - the Black Caps or the Baggy Greens (I'll give you a hint: it's not even remotely close!) Can you even imagine what would've heppened if it was Aaron Finch and his Aussies on the losing side at the end of that 2019 World Cup finals? We never would've heard the end of it! Contrast that, instead. with Kane Williamson's mature, generous, and utterly sportsman-like behaviour, and the difference is plain for all to see. I reckon the Baggy Greens would do well to start to imbue some sportsmanship from the Black Caps. I suspect most of the rest of the world will probably agree - not that anyone's necessarily holding their breath waiting for it to happen.....

100% agree there is nothing to defend...100% disagree that if it was an Aus I would have a different attitude...lawrence basically did the same thing when he was dismissed and he also has nothing to defend.....

According to Andy Flower NZ were the worst sledgers he came across, and he played against Steve Waugh's side. Says a lot don't you think!

You're the exception Riccardo. For two years on this website I've seen Jacko's attitude. WillowWiz came on here in January, and bombarded this website with so much anti-aussie comments I started to suspect Jacko adopted another pseudonym.
