beat up. There’s a big difference in fitness and intensity required to play international footy v Koori knockout. Confected controversy for the pearl clutchers.

Don't blame Latrell for picking the Koori Knockout over the Kangaroos - ask why the Roos brand is so devalued

when it comes to whiney hypocrisy Ozzies have nothing on the Poms who are probably the most arrogant sanctimonious whingers in the world. Evidence the disgusting abuse heaped on the gracious Ozzie cricket side after a perfectly legitimate runout in the ashes cricket series.

This article seems illogical to me. Firstly, it is up to the umpire to call when an over is complete and a batter is free to wander out of their ground. Clearly that did not occur here, otherwise the appeal would be denied. The idea that the batter was somehow lured out of their ground due to cues given by the umpire is laughable. Clearly, what we had was a batter routinely ignoring the law of the game. A law that other players had little difficulty in adhering to. The batter was actually showing disrespect to the law and traditions of the game, and the role of the umpire who is the complete arbiter of how the game is to proceed.

And while the runout might not be ideal in the eyes of many, whatever negatives were totally cancelled out by the petulance shown by the English camp, the ugly feral reaction of fans at the ground, and the sanctimony and remarkable hypocrisy demonstrated by the English media. The English should actually be embarrassed and ashamed at their reaction to this minor sporting setback.

COMMENT: Cummins failed the moral test and tarnished these Ashes. He had the chance to be a legend and blew it

As a self described Pom yourself surely you must be embarrassed with the way the Pommy media is carrying on? The sanctimony and utter hypocrisy is quite remarkable is it not?

it could be an interesting exercise if the broadcasters were to get someone to hold the ball in various positions touching the turf or just above, at the same point in the field where Starc took the catch in order to let the viewers see the effect that foreshortening can have on perception of validity of a catch.

'Biggest load of rubbish': Starc catch controversy fires up McGrath as Aussies on verge of victory after Lyon's heroic knock

why is it hilarious? You clearly cannot see the entirety of the fingers and ball in relation to ground level in the image. In fact these images from a distant camera viewpoint tend to create the illusion of a false ground level closer to the observer than it is in reality.

I’ve just looked at the Starc catch and I can see that for the uninitiated it might appear that the ball has clearly been dragged along the ground. But I believe this view is as a result of an optical illusion caused by the affect of a distant camera. While it is possible that ball did indeed touch the turf, the evidence is actually inconclusive, as foreshortening has obscured the exact position of the fingers underneath the ball, and it is a quite feasible possibility that the ball was at all times held above turf.

The thing is India does not have to cheat to beat Aus in Indian conditions. That’s why this blatant pitch doctoring is so pathetic. Aus are terrible in Indian conditions full stop. India have so much in their favour, including the umpiring. Funny how the umpires developed arthritis in their finger when India batted. Aus have to negotiate the vagaries of DRS to get even the plumbest of LBs while India seem to get the benefit of LBs when it is umpires calls. I suppose it’s a backhanded compliment to Aus that India are so lacking in belief whenever they play Aus that they feel the need to resort to such a pathetic strategy.

Couldn’t agree with you more dude! There is a rather unappealing redneck element to this discussion. I commend the ARL in their clever use of the eligibility laws to help promote the game internationally. I think with the Samoans as an example, most people are canny enough to regard the Samoan team more along the lines of a cultural or ethnic team, rather than one representing a specific country (almost all of their players are born outside the country they represent). This is a benefit in the ambiguity of Samoan being both a nationality and an ethnicity description.

Tiers for Years: Samoa and Tonga set to stay in Tier 2 until 2030, ending 'bulls--t' Origin eligibility debate

Lol. Poor Republican! What a word salad! You are correct that rugby and rugby league is a game well suited to Polynesians (and Indigenous Ozzies also). And there are plenty of Ozzies of Polynesian heritage playing in this world cup, playing for the Kangaroos, the Kiwis, the Tongans and the Samoans! I don’t think NZ has a monopoly on the Polynesian peoples, contrary to your typical white Ocker pronouncements. You need to take a look around you and notice the diversity!

Gutsy Kangaroos fight through to World Cup final after edging out Kiwis in bruising battle

A well judged run chase by Pak, it was more like 1999 really.

a proud Ozzie now! Do you have a problem with that?

What is the best team of Australians who are playing for other nations at the World Cup?

pffft .. the Clarke sledge at Anderson is so overhyped, you’ve got to laugh at the phony outrage. And Warner a racist? Really? That’d be the some bloke who captained SRH to their first IPL tournament victory? I’m sure his teammates would be disturbed to hear this.

Is Australia falling out of love with cricket?

Who’s to blame for Australia’s T20 World Cup failure: Selectors, coach, captain, players let themselves down

I have to assume you were unaware that the Fijians knocked NZ out in the quarters at the previous world cup? Fijians certainly underrated and unlucky with the refereeing, but if NZ are to defeat Oz I suspect they’ll need an even bigger helping hand from the ref.

Manu masterclass sees Kiwis survive massive Fiji scare and set up Kangaroos clash

would that unimpeachable record of sportsmanship include when he oversaw Wagner’s death threat bowling tactics, especially when employed against the Bangladeshis in 2019?

'Imagine that was Warner': Cricket world divided over Kane Williamson's 'blatant bit of cheating' against England

Brilliant might be a slight exaggeration. A good effort maybe but Ire were never in it. It’s important not to be suckered in by T20. It is a very random game at times. I wouldn’t be drawing dramatic conclusions about the state of the world from the results of a T20 game. This T20 tournament is better viewed as a festival event. For example the Ozzies are looking underdone and flustered at the moment when only a year ago they absolutely blitzed red hot favourites NZ in Dubai, with basically the same personnel they have now. But don’t get me wrong, the T20 world cup is good in that it allows lesser lights such as NZ and the Saffers to get their piece of the limelight.

REPORT: Firing Finch, bowler blitz seal Aussie win over Ireland - but chance to fix net run rate blown

yeah nah. Sri Lanka are a mediocre side who lost to Namibia in qualifiers. Yet but for butterfingers they’d have skittled NZ and won easily. I like you had thought NZ were shoo-ins to win everything but I’ve since changed my mind. NZ are basically bullies who look good against feeble opponents (Aus + Lanka) but will crumble against the really top sides. In fact I am now predicting the Saffers to do a demolition job on the Kiwi pretenders and win their first world cricket world cup.

Phillips punishes the costliest drop of the World Cup as New Zealand survive Sri Lanka scare

it’s only T20, mickey mouse stuff really. Only contest that really matters in cricket is the Ashes. Every other cricketing nation is intensely jealous of the historic Eng v Aus rivalry!

'There's a roof just 4 kms away': Fans vent as Aus-England blockbuster abandoned... with alternate venue just up the road

Home advantage is a myth (at least in T20s). Aus were beaten in lead up games by Zimb, Ind, Eng. If anything Aus perform slightly better away in T20.

Five reasons why Australia will beat England in World Cup blockbuster ... and five more why they won't

any game decided by DLS in this way is disappointing. What’s the point of having a T20 world cup tournament and having games decided in this way? why aren’t the games started earlier in the day, then there would be plenty of leeway to complete the game properly.

'A famous victory': Irish eyes are smiling after boilover World Cup upset win over England

yes the T20 is good in that the mini tournament is played just before the main draw and it is exciting for supporters and teams. The only problem is that you need a bigger turnaround time between games in league, so I don’t think a mini tournament would work so well.

Never mind the blowouts: Why Australia must do more to make future World Cups better

Yes NZ the raging hot favourites to win. The only potential problem I can see is if the Ozzies can somehow weasel their way into the final with them, in which case they will more then likely annihilate the mentally frail Kiwis in said final.

FLEM’S VERDICT: England can be rolled like their Prime Ministers if Aussies make a couple of subtle changes

This. Faulkner adds much needed variety. One change I might consider is ABdV to keeper and bring in Dudley Nourse.

What is South Africa's best ever Test XI?

Well that’s not correct. There have been plenty of Aus born All Blacks, and Marnus is more Ocker than any of the Saffers playing for NZ are Kiwi.
