After back-to-back wins over premiership contenders, the Brisbane Broncos are looking to maintain their momentum heading into the finals when they take on the under-siege Manly Sea Eagles. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting at 4:10pm (AEST).

The Broncos have put the entire competition on notice in the past fortnight with wins over the Rabbitohs and Roosters.

It did come at a cost though, with hooker Andrew McCullough rested from this week’s match after sustaining a facial injury in a controversial hit by Roosters enforcer Dylan Napa. He is replaced by Jake Turpin.

But it was the margin of the victories (20 and 16 points respectively), which have seen Wayne Bennett’s side tipped as the only team outside of the four to be true contenders for the title in 2018.

This week’s game, however, is just as if not more important than both those matches. Brisbane have had no trouble taking down the top teams, having won eight of their 12 matches this year against top-eight sides.

Rather, it is lower-ranked opposition that they have struggled against, highlighted by the fact that they headed into their game with South Sydney on the back of back-to-back losses to the Bulldogs and Cowboys.

Despite rising to the occasion in the past two weeks, it will mean nothing if they can’t dispose of a Sea Eagles side who looks like they can’t wait for their 2018 campaign to be over.

Trent Barrett’s men have shown promising signs in the past two weeks, but will need a much better attitude in defence if they are to end their season on a high, having conceded an average of 31 points in their past six games.

While Manly fans may consider their side long odds of causing an upset on Sunday afternoon, they can always find hope in the Sea Eagles’ 38-24 victory over the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium earlier this year.

And that win also came at a time when the men from the Northern Beaches were struggling. That time they headed to Brisbane on the back of a five-game losing streak.

Prediction
Brisbane are at risk of suffering a letdown after back-to-back games against top sides and Manly have the cattle to cause a boilover in Barrett’s last match at the helm.

Sea Eagles by 6.

I am seriously worried that the inclusion of McCullough and Glenn for Turpin and Fafita is a huge step backwards. Dragons in with a mighty chance for the upset, if the attack stagnates.

Broncos have a higher percentage for/against than Penrith. Why are they 6th? We’re they given the choice of who they wanted to play?

Hey you guys remember when they said Dragons were top four favorites when they beat Brisbane in round one? I’m so glad we get to play Dragons again ????????

I personally think it should favor attack, but this years result suits me.

For anyone confused about how Brisbane ended in sixth: 5th - Penrith - 517/461 x 100 = 112.148 6th - Brisbane - 556/500 x 100 = 111.200 That's how they calculate it.

Technically correct Renegade, but unless the team is absolutely terrible in attack (Tigers e.g.) it usually almost always goes to the better defensive side.

Personally think the emphasis should be on defence. This from a Penrith fan who was cheering Brisbane on to win by 33+

It’s neither of those of two... it’s based on percentage (i.e. takes into account points scored and conceded)

If teams are equal on +/-, I believe it should go to the team who has scored the most points, not who has conceded the least. At least I WOULD think that, if it didn't mean playing the Warriors. Damn, what a close top eight. If ever a team from outside the top 4 could win it, you'd have to think it is this year since the bottom 4 were literally one win away...

Pangai injury looked precautionary with him sitting on the sideline having a giggle. We’ll see what happens though.

Aye that. Still a good effort to get 4 out of 5.

I almost feel for you long suffering Manly supporters. They had moments in attack. Brisbane will really need to sharpen up their defense next week against the Dragons. They were caught out a few times this afternoon and if they get to round 2 of the finals, their opposition will not let them off lightly. Some good points in attack with Milford and Nicorima both willing to run. Milford in particular looks to have a lot of time and is generally coming up with good decisions in general play and kicks. Forwards are going strong and I hope they keep that momentum in the finals. Pangai Jr mayneed to prove his fitness, but other than McCollough everyone seems to be in good shape.

Report: The Brisbane Broncos have secured a home final after belting a disappointing Manly Sea Eagles outfit 48-16 at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Had the Broncos scored just one more point, they would have finished the regular season in fifth position and played the New Zealand Warriors. Instead, they will host the St. George Illawarra Dragons, led by former Brisbane halfback Ben Hunt. Despite promising signs in attack, Manly were no match for Wayne Bennett’s men, falling apart in defence as the Broncos ran in eight tries to three. Brisbane winger Corey Oates bagged four of his own while Jamayne Isaako scored 22 points to overtake Sydney Roosters centre Latrell Mitchell as the competition’s top points scorer. Oates crossed over off the first set of the game when he pounced on a well-weighted Anthony Milford grubber. It was all the home side early and they quickly skipped out to a 12-point lead when Kodi Nikorima sliced through flimsy Manly defence off the scrum to score in the 12th minute. Despite their dominance, Brisbane’s lead was cut to just six when Shaun Lane barged over in the 18th minute. Yet, in a real seesawing affair, the Broncos quickly regained the ascendancy when Oates crossed over again in the 25th minute. Despite an underwhelming season, Manly continued to hang on and eventually reduced the deficit to 10 points when Brad Parker went over in the corner off a well-executed long ball from Daly Cherry-Evans. The Broncos maintained that 10-point lead heading into the sheds and quickly found themselves further ahead when James Roberts scored in the 43rd minute. Oates added two more to his personal tally and the Broncos were steaming towards fifth position before Jake Trbojevic collected a Martin Taupau grubber to post Manly’s third try of the afternoon. Two late tries to Jamayne Isaako and Joe Ofahengaue saw Brisbane’s lead extended to 32 and that was where the points would finish, with the Broncos claiming a 48-16 win. The 32-point victory saw them draw level on points differential with Penrith, but the Panthers have a better differential percentage and finish fifth. Regardless, the win was Brisbane’s third straight and they now enter the finals series in arguably the best form of all eight sides remaining. Meanwhile, Sunday's heavy defeat brings to an end a terrible season for the men from the Northern Beaches, who finish 2018 with just seven wins to their name.

Manly finish the season with a 29% win record. Letting teams put in 40 and more against them regularly over the last 3 years. The Mighty Sea Eagles. Praise the Lord that ‘coach’ is out the door. Good Luck to the Broncos in the finals - scored some outstanding tries today. Lovely to watch.

Game hasn't been played yet. Nobody knows what will happen next week do they. As long as Sutton and/or Klein aren't the refs.

I am happy with who we are playing because we suck badly against the Warriors. I still think we will find it very hard to win next week.
