Round 24 of the NRL premiership continues the evening with the Brisbane Broncos hosting the Parramatta Eels at the Gabba in Brisbane. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 8:00pm (AEST).

There’s just four weeks to go before the finals and quite a logjam has developed on either side of the cut-off point. There’ll be lots of talk about different scenarios and permutations, points differentials and maybe even byes in the coming weeks, as the likes of Parramatta try to stay alive one more week.

But it’s actually quite simple tonight. Even with the remaining byes factored in, the Eels are barely clinging to eighth place and have two fiendishly difficult away trips in their last three – the Broncos tonight and the Panthers on the penultimate weekend. They don’t want to have to go to Penrith facing elimination, so winning tonight is imperative.

The Broncos’ primary objective is likely to be securing a top-two finish, with the JJ Giltinan Shield a nice bonus if it happens. Whatever the case, with a trip to Canberra and a home game against Melbourne still to come, tonight is potentially important. A big victory over Parramatta plus their bye next week would probably, if not certainly, put the Broncos out of the Warriors’ reach.

There’s good news for the Broncos personnel-wise, with Adam Reynolds, Kobe Hetherington and Jordan Riki all back after various maladies. The Eels are still without suspended duo Maika Sivo and Reagan Campbell-Gillard and have made a surprise positional switch, with occasional pivot Daejarn Asi named in the centres, Bailey Simonsson shifted to wing and Arthur Miller-Stephen dropped.

Prediction

Man for man, there aren’t many matchups that don’t favour the Broncos. Even if Parramatta had Campbell-Gillard and the pre-injury Wiremu Greig, it’s unlikely they could match Brisbane’s outstanding middle forwards.

A Parramatta win would surely require an outstanding team performance, a clanger from the Broncos, or likely both. Broncos by 20

That's totally my point, thank you. Carrigan will leave everything on the field and has so much skill, Haas, in my opinion won't last nearly as long in his career plus he's showing signs of selfishness with bad influencers in his ears.

In this case you’re blaming the bunker incorrectly. There was nothing wrong with the play that led to the Penrith try. It was the play before that play the ball , that should have had Manly with the ball.

Many had the Warriors coming last at the start of the year. Look at the Warriors performances for many years. Broncos have had a good squad for a while & added what they needed to it. A good halfback & another very good fullback. How doesn’t improving the Warriors so much , make Webster ( a new first grade coach ), coach of the year?

I’d definitely trade him for Cooper Johns and the Arthur kid… at the very least he is a real first grader

How do you think we would go without Carrigan tonight but with Haas?

Well done Broncos. Eels really took it to them in the first 20 minutes but Reece Lightning did them in and it was over at half time. I didn't think the scoreline would be this high but I'll certainly take it. GO BRONCOS (& MATILDAS)!!!

Nine tries to two and I still think the score flattered the Eels. Brisbane absolutely pumped them

A game that dwindled into nothingness. Broncos showed how good they can be, but chose not to play the game out. Not a finals performance. Bad luck, Eels - looked really good early - nothing went right for them.

Do Bronco's lose that one if Haas was not part of the team. Not a fan of M$1 prop forwards. Can't see the value. Plus, Parra were crap.

FULL-TIME Thankyou everybody for joining the blog tonight. I’ll be back tomorrow as part of a David sandwich. David Holden will be all over Souths vs Georgie-Warra, I’ll chime in with the call of the Tigers and Warriors, before Mr Holden returns well-rested and raring for Easts vs Redcliffe. By the way, have you noticed that Redcliffe is playing Easts this weekend and the Tigers next. These are the piercing observations you can only get here. Bye for now. FULL-TIME Brisbane has won by 44 and might've had more. They were a bit sloppy at times, but the game was over when most of that sloppiness occurred. I don't think coach Walters will be too worried. Brisbane.......................54 Parramatta...................10
