The Canberra Raiders look to take first position on the ladder as they brace for the under-siege Brisbane Broncos at GIO Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting at 4:05pm (AEST).

There is little doubt anymore. The Canberra Raiders are the real deal in 2019.

Their only blip being a 22-10 loss to Melbourne, the Green Machine have been otherwise faultless, shutting out the Eels 19-0 last week.

They now enter Round 6 with the best defensive record in the competition, conceding just 44 points from five games.

And a win by seven points or more on Sunday would see them surge up to top spot on the ladder.

Their strong form means that Aidan Sezer will have to work his way back into the side, returning via injury in the Canterbury Cup. Meanwhile, Joe Tapine is out with an ankle injury, replaced by JJ Collins on the bench.

This week they face a test in complacency when they take on the bumbling Broncos.

Brisbane have arguably been the competition’s biggest disappointment so far, having won only one of their opening five games to start the season.

Their defence has been shaky to say the least while much-maligned halves combination Kodi Nikorima and Anthony Milford have been continually criticised for lacking control.

The pair have been given another week to redeem themselves though, as has fullback Darius Boyd, who has been singled out recently for his efforts.

They will be without prop Matt Lodge, replaced by Payne Haas with David Fifita lining up at lock.

With the Sharks, Rabbitohs, Sea Eagles and Roosters to come in the next four weeks, they need to turn things around fast.

Prediction
The bounce back factor will figure sometime soon for the Broncos but not this week. Only complacency will stop the Raiders from claiming another win.

Canberra by 16.

They’ve got a nightmare month ahead… Sharks, Souths and chooks along with a competitive Manly outfit. They could easily be only 1 or 2 from 10.

I think the rot has set in for the Broncos. Seibold will be the scapegoat, but I think the board and CEO are the problem.

Jack is like a bull at a gate - he is all go - he makes things happen but he's also prone to making mistakes. Unfortunately you have to take the good with bad with him at the moment. Love his enthusiasm though. He's a mad bastard. His 40/20 was the turning point of the match. Plus he brings such great punishing defence. I was impressed with BJ's game today - great barging try where he smashed Darius Boyd before going over and he supported Bateman well to get his second. BJ seems to have pulled his head in this year. Dare I say he's matured (hope I'm not speaking too soon!). And agree Sammy's defence was great - he seems to have bulked up a little over the off season and put on some surprisingly big hits in the game for a little guy. And what about DNK? Over 200 metres for the game after looking like he was going to be carried off. He's fast becoming my favourite Raiders player. Not sure they shut up shop in the second half. They could have rolled over when the Broncos went up 16-14 but found a second wind and scored the next two tries. They are a different team to the one that scored at will in 2016. They are tougher, less likely to blitz teams by big margins but they will always be in the contest. I'm liking it. Very happy with a 5-1 start. Hope you went Taree. I've seen 3 wins and a loss to the Storm so far. Some tough games ahead though over the next month though. Ricky must be very pleased with what he's seeing.

Geoff, can Wighton play an error free game. His error rate is his only problem of late. However he has always been error prone. Williams was brilliant in defence all game. They will have to stick with him I hope. I enjoyed the game, however why did the Raiders shut up shop. They seemed to just defend in the second half, offloads & quick ball movement are the key. But 5 from 6 is a very good start.

Boyd is a "spectator" in defence. Broncos no longer obligation to select him as Daddy doesn't wield any influence now.

I have to say I got to see a bit of the Titan as well as this game and I am impressed with the Titans and Raiders attack, especially the Raiders first half. They actually used the ball, passing and offloading. That style of football easily opened us up. Hopefully those two sides keep that up for the year band go deep into the finals with it. As for the Broncs. There was little to be positive about. Same issues carry on. We need to sign a leader, probably a half back. Slamming Sam was the big lose for us in regards to leadership. You can see why we kept him on even those he was past it for the last year or two.

Wayne must be smiling. Broncos look clueless. Jimmy The Jet can go out & organise a venue for Mad Monday. He's had plenty of practise!

Ha 10 in the bin.. Did you see Brisbane all night lay all over the Raids. Slowing the play down. Being at the game it was bordering on ridiculous.

Cannot believe what a good pick up CNK has been at full back for the Raiders. When he and Anthony Milford collided I thought he was going to be stretchered off with a buggered knee - but no the guy gets up and keeps going again like the Duracell bunny - amazing! Without him we lose. Heart in the mouth stuff in that final 6 minutes. Looked like the Broncos were going to take the game away when they went to a 16-14 lead but the Raiders were good enough to come back. But the Broncos didn't go away. Good close contest in front of a crowd of 17,200. I'll take a good close win any day.

Seibold needs some coaching lessons off uncle Wayne, he will be giving lessons at the end of the season, get your bloke to make a booking lol its as simple as that! One fluke dosent make a seasoned coach as the Broncs should have known!

And Rapana blew up after his own team was offside and kept yelling at the ref all the way back to the defensive line. How is that better? No consistency...

Is it still too soon to declare the coaching swap a failure? The defence is sorely missing Wayne Bennett's influence and the attack look lost without Jason Demetriou...

Nice win by the Raiders. The Broncos put together a decent performance in attack this time but the Raiders had attacking answers of their own. 5-1 winning to start the season for the Raiders and the Broncos with a 5-1 losing start. Who would have thought this would be the state of affairs for these two teams six rounds in.

Player of the match: Alfie Langer. How is he allowed to spend so much time on the field?

FULL-TIME: Raiders 26 defeat Broncos 22 Brisbane looking better but still lacking concentration in defence at times. They have the points, having scored four tries against the best defensive side in the competition, but fall short against a committed Raiders outfit. Thanks for joining me tonight folks. Looking forward to tomorrow as Parramatta play Wests in the first game at Bankwest Stadium!

That ones probably our worse loss of the year. Not on the scoreboard, but generally Brisbane didn’t even look like they wanted to play a game of footy today.
