The Canberra Raiders host the Wests Tigers to kick off Saturday’s program. Join The Roar for live scores from 3pm AEST.
Teenager Lachlan Galvin is set to start at five-eighth in the Tigers’ season opener against Canberra in the national capital, partnering new recruit Jayden Sullivan in the halves.
First-season coach Benji Marshall made the bold call in the biggest selection gamble since Marshall also debuted at 18 back in 2003.
That roll of the dice turned out OK, with Marshall leading the joint venture to their one and only premiership two years later.
Little wonder the club’s rep stars are backing Marshall and Galvin to deliver for the Tigers more than two decades on.
Despite a perceived lack of belief from NRL pundits, the Raiders produced a stirring 28-12 win against Newcastle that made a mockery of predictions they’d tumble down the ladder.
The Raiders should be too strong for a Tigers side which had the bye in Round 1. Raiders by 12

JWH, Radley, Leniu... I get your point. It's refreshing to see that Lindsay Collins is an exception to that rule. Collins consistently delivers without the rubbish and the niggle. Collins is worth 3 of JWH at his best.

No thanks, we do not need another hothead. Have enough already

Hardly the reward it deserved though. Acting like that deserved some type of trophy. Just think of the prestige of being the first ‘OAK Milking it’ award winner! :silly:

Well it did end up being an HIA and the end of his afternoon

I am assuming you meant Bulldogs and Knights - or was it meant to be Titans and Knights?

Staines had some after that hit from nowhere cleaned him up.

Tinkler ‘may’ have discussed it with his accountant

How bad are strange stains?

Awww that seems unfair. Can't the knights and knights fans also claim a tax write off?

Next season if Galvin continues to play first grade. West’s will need to upgrade his contract. Then Luai will be on $1.2 million per season. Then they’ll still have Sullivan on $500,000 odd per season, as is Fainu ( who’s not even played first grade ) . Do they then sell Fainu & Sullivan , paying some of their contracts for them to play elsewhere?

I think they treat it as a tax right-off

Canberra went from not winning 13+ last season to going 13+ back to back in 2024. Attack looking better than last yr. Not a great start for Benji, but baby steps. It won't change so quickly.

How good is Strange and how bad is Staines. The difference between both players exposed in one play. Most wingers would have scored in that position.

Poor positioning from Staines. That said, you don't throw a no look pass over the touch judge's head! Poor play from Galvin.

More of the same for West Tigers in 2024 it seems. You'd think the people who run that club would have got sick of being a laughing stock by now, but apparently not

There should be suspensions for bad acting and Rapana could be the first player to receive the 'OAK Milking it' award.

Sounds like he could replace JWH at the Roosters.

Thats a real joke that Hudson Young starts every niggle, he was the first to come in and throw a punch, so why are the Raiders getting the penalty?
