Round 5 of the NRL Premiership continues this afternoon when the Cronulla Sharks take on the Wests Tigers at PointsBet Stadium in Cronulla. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4.05pm (AEST).

There was plenty of heartbreak last weekend for the Tigers, and more turmoil during the week. This can either galvanise a team or drive a wedge in. Either way, it’s not going to be easy against the Sharks.

After a first round loss, the Sharks have barely put a foot wrong since and find themselves towards the top of the table. The shut out of the Knights last weekend showed a new found defensive resolve that has been missing for the last few seasons.

Nicho Hyne, Dale Finucane and Cameron McInnes have proved great acquisitions to date. Hyne and Matt Moylan have already proved a lethal combination in the halves and Will Kennedy has carried on where he finished last year.

Craig Fitzgibbon has the luxury of naming an unchanged line-up, with Siosifa Talakai keeping Connor Tracey out of the squad.

Whilst Tigers fans were left in shock last Thursday after the last minute loss to the Titans, most NRL fans were just glad it was over. Both teams were horrid.

With Jackson Hastings still on the sidelines, the pressure is again on Luke Brooks to deliver, However, he won’t be able to achieve much with a back-pedalling forward line. As senior players, James Tamou and Joe Ofahengaue need to lead the way.

Michael Maguire has resisted the opportunity to make changes and has named the same 17.

Prediction

The Tigers defended stoutly last Thursday night but this Sharks team will throw a lot more at them.

The Sharks are looking to re-establish PointsBet Stadium as a place opposition teams try to avoid, with Fitzgibbon looking to rule out any complacency.

In past years, Sharks fans would worry about these sort of matches. However, the Sharks seem to be made of different stuff this year.

They all count Nat. It's not my fault if your Broncos crashed the party late.

No Nat. He wasn't scoring. It got QLD a repeat set of 6 denying the Blues the ball and an opportunity to comeback.

That is exactly the problem Luke. No decent coach would go near the club with that administration and that roster. They would be just another dead man walking.

Can the bunker not see a replay and give the referee a heads up? Can the referees not see the replay on the big screen to see they stuffed up and change their decision? What is the point of having the technology EJ if it doesn't improve the game but it is just used to embarrass it further?

Geoff Toovey will always work best at Manly. He lives and breathes their culture and bleeds maroon and white. But he is still a good coach and should be given an opportunity IF he is interested. Sadly though, nothing will change at the Tigers unless they put a broom through the place starting from the top down. A new boardroom and CEO and the roster needs a complete overhaul. The only players I would keep would be Adam Doueihi, David Nofoaluma and possibly Jake Simpkin and Oliver Gildart. Luciano Leilua is the Tigers best and most consistent player and they are losing him. That should never have happened. If the Tigers squad sees little change there will be little change in their success as well even if Craig Bellamy were to take over from Madge as head coach.

No one wants to see this sort of thing. Good juju to the Sharkies for getting the 2 points; didn’t strain yourselves too much. Tigers. Is there a drawing board you can go back to ? Maybe a paper bag. Sometimes you just have to say I’ll drive an Uber.

Yeah they need Darren Lockyer as their new CEO. Do something Tigers because you ain’t going to get a win.

Is that right? Tigers have scored one try in two games, 160 minutes of footy.

The Sharks have defeated the Tigers 30-4 this afternoon. Coach Fitzgibbon won't be overly happy with the performance but will be satisfied that they can play below their best and still win. Hynes and Moylan both had big games and kept asking questions of the defence. Ken Maumolo worked hard for the Tigers and deserved his try

They will get old man Tim Sheens to step in until they can find a replacement. That is why they put him in a position over Madge in the first place. . If the Tigers don’t improve then they will blame that on Madge’s legacy instead of Sheens so it is a win/win for Tim Sheens either way.
