Round 14 continues this afternoon when the Gold Coast Titans host the Sydney Roosters at Cbus Super Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3:00pm (AEST).

Now that the first installment of Origin is over, it’s back to club football for the time being. The Titans have returned to Earth with a thud after a bright start to the season.

It’s not the last chance for them to resurrect their season but they are likely to fall two wins outside the eight with another loss this afternoon.

The Titans attack is not the issue. They are comfortably inside the top eight for points scored. However, they are the third-worst defensive team in the competition for points conceded, and it’s sinking their season.

With both sides missing Origin stars, the Titans did show some more grit against the Storm last weekend. In the end, only poor last-tackle options and a series of missed chances prevented what would have been an upset win.

Gold Coast have named their four Origin representatives, meaning a raft of players from last weekend, including impressive youngster Jayden Campbell.

He may yet get the call up if AJ Brimson pulls up sore. Anthony Don and Mitch Rein have been named in the reserves and both may return from injury.

After an upset loss to the Broncos, the Roosters bounced back with a big win against the Raiders a fortnight ago.

They are getting back towards full strength and would appear to be fighting it out with the Eels and Rabbits for the last two spots in the top four.

Strangely enough, the Roosters don’t have many Origin representatives. James Tedesco has been named to return with Joseph Suaalii a likely replacement if the Blues No.1 withdraws. Isaac Liu and Angus Crichton both return from injury in timely boosts.

Prediction
Justin Holbrook has big problems at the Titans and I don’t think he can turn it around this weekend.

The Roosters are too professional a unit to let this slip, Tedesco or no Tedesco.

Roosters by 10.

Might have exaggerated my first point- Ikuvalu top 11 wingers in the comp. Waerea has a habit of hitting blokes high, carrying on like a pork chop and being extremely hateable whilst being immense in the middle. Also had a mate tell me JWH is and always was better than my beloved JBrom- I can't personally allow that.

Yep, tear out your hair stuff. Just frustrating. Top 2 sides coming up and that 2nd half is not how you prepare for them. Hopefully got that out of their system and they will put in a decent performance against them.

He has not been great in defence against top opposite wingers.

If they change coaches they should have a go for Adrian Lam coaching Wigan. I am sure he would like to have a go at coaching a NRL team next year.

Yeah agreed. If anything I think Proctor’s was worse It’s a shame because I support what they’re trying to do. Hopefully it’s just one refs error and not a softening of the approach…

There's been a few of those over the years Adam. Remember that capitulation against Cronulla in 2014 or 2015 I think it was? We were up by 30 or so and still lost. These chookies know how to win a game in spectacular fashion but geez they also know how to lose one. Today they held up thankfully

Exactly. Inconsistent calls. The initial crackdown dictum was direct and high = 10 in bin. Both should have been binned.

Can’t even get the scores right. It’s a Titans choke because they were up 34-30 and lost.

Titans should ditch Justin Holbrook and get Ted Orion - his teams knew how to defend!

Ikuvalu would be a first grader at most clubs but he’s not top ten winger by a long shot I don’t like JWH (who does?) but he was great today You’ve nailed point 3 !!!

He turned his back and led with his elbow. Granted he didn’t deliberately try and elbow his head, but he did and it was a risky play. 10 in the bin was fair. The real question was how Proctor didn’t get ten for his hit on Manu..,

Dubious penalty, but Keighran had all day to tackle Fogarty and just watched him run past.

3 misses by Keighran = three tries to Titans. Don't expect to see him next week.
