Round 24 continues this afternoon when the Manly Sea Eagles take on the Canterbury Bulldogs at Moreton Daily Stadium in Redcliffe. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 1:50pm (AEST).

On paper, we have got a large mismatch this afternoon, with the Bulldogs already assured of the wooden spoon. The Sea Eagles do need to win to keep their quest for the top four alive.

In recent years, the absence of Tom Trbojevic has proved to be kryptonite for the Sea Eagles. However, with team confidence at an all-time high, they fought back to edge the Canberra Raiders 19-18 last round even without Tommy Turbo.

Daly Cherry-Evans kicked the winning field goal but Kieran Foran was the star, back to something approaching his best form. Moses Suli was also a standout, but he can’t make the 17 this weekend, such is Manly’s wealth of returning stars

Tom Trbojevic returns from injury at fullback, with Brad Parker also making his return. Toa Sipley retains his spot as a starting prop, with Josh Aloiai starting from the bench.

The Bulldogs were brave but ultimately fell short against the Knights last weekend. They made sure of the wooden spoon in the process.

Trent Barrett hasn’t been able to come up with a winning combination this season, with his halves always moving through revolving doors. Rumours of salary cap pressure are growing, so some will surely be playing for their future this afternoon.

Suspensions, off-field incidents and loan recalls have created upheaval in the forward pack. Adam Elliott, Luke Thompson, Corey Waddell, Corey Horsburgh and Ryan James are all out. Jack Hetherington and Ava Seumanufagai come back in, with Matt Doorey and Joe Stimson promoted. Bailey Biondi-Odo has been named at dummy half. The new-look interchange consists of Brandon Wakeham, Ofahiki Ogden, Chris Patolo and Sione Katoa.

Prediction:

I’ve got an overwhelming sense of doom for Bulldogs fans in this one.

It wouldn’t be easy against the Sea Eagles with a full-strength Bulldogs team. With the forward pack decimated, this will get ugly – maybe not quite as ugly as their last match, though.

Since we knew what we were capable of our effort started stinking against lesser teams. I could be wrong but the boys are young and have a lot to learn. First time winning for many of them... finals we will be on.

Lot of positives for Dogs, especially those who had a good game against Manly who are on the Barrett/Gould possible cull list. I’ll back a player competing for his job over one playing for the two points every time. If Des had rested Turbo, score would have been reversed.

The team that was last in completion rates beats the team 1st in completion rates. When people tell you that they are critical to victory, these 2 prove otherwise.

Yes. Saab had an off day. Out of his system one hopes. Still, once the Boys started to concentrate they got it together.

Is it just me or are referees and the bunker more incompetent this year than ever?

I couldn’t understand why they kept going to Saab’s wing in attack most of the game when the Dogs left defence was handling it so well. Anyway i hope they don’t turn up like that next week

Despite the final score, the Dogs closed Manly out for most of the game. The Manly boys will have their eyes closed when having a shave in front of the mirror tomorrow morning. Most of them may as have not turned up and just left Turbo with more space on the grass to play on.

And pray that Turbo stays both well away from the Corso, and out of the shower

Hull KR earrlier this year. It was 7s into the match. One about 20 years ago in Super League as well. Can't remember one in in NRL but the Memory is not what it was.

Because upsetting the Dogs, at least his year, doesn't matter.

Not just Mary, Milward and the Dragoon's Brains trust. ANd the same as Hook will think when he sees Dufty racking up tries next year.

Probably fair. Barrett will tell the board it was as good as a win

Des Hasler won't be happy with the Sea Eagles effort but, with finals around the corner, perhaps him team has some excuse in just doing enough to win.

DCE was probably shocked that Saab got something right today at all.
