4 Pines Park plays host between Manly Sea Eagles and visitors New Zealand Warriors for some winter Saturday night rugby league. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7.35pm AEST.
The loss of superstar fullback Tom Trbojevic was a massive blow to Manly’s chances of reaching the top eight for the Sea Eagles. Add the loss of skipper Daly Cherry-Evans to Origin duties and the struggling Sea Eagles look even worse on paper. However, the boys from the Northern Beaches will welcome the inclusion of Martin Taupau, Jason Saab and Karl Lawton to strengthen the Manly side as much as possible in the absence of their two key stars.
Josh Schuster will partner Kieran Foran in the halves and the pair will want to control the game with their kicking games in front of their passionate fans. With no Cherry-Evans, the responsibility will fall on Foran to come up with the big plays and put pressure on the Warriors backline. Manly have conceded an average of over 23 points and if they want to win, their defence needs to shore up quickly and show some resilience under pressure situations.
As for the Warriors, they’re in a similar boat to Manly, lost as a club and struggling to find a way to keep themselves upbeat during a third consecutive season of having to relocate away from their base in Auckland due to Covid-19. And you get the sense that with some more player departures, the club is at boiling point on and off the field. This is where senior players like Shaun Johnson, Tohu Harris and Jazz Tevaga need to step up and motivate their squad in tough times.
Prediction
Overall, I see this as a battle between the two New Zealand international halfbacks in Foran and Johnson that will decide the outcome of this contest. Both teams are off the pace with shocking defensive stats. But Manly bode well with their home record and haven’t lost a game at 4 Pines Park this season. It will be a tight contest as Manly field a weaker side, however, they should get the job done.

Agree… I saw a bit of Paseka in the reserves, he looks good to go. Young Koula also gets better with every game

Olakau’atu is just such a huge unit when you see him in the flesh on the ground. He must be six foot five or six foot six and fit as all buggery. Well, down to the Brookvale Hotel for a few refreshments before getting the bus out to Av.

4th time Garrick has scored 24 points in a game, only three players have more.

Really happy for Jason Saab tonight. Bit of mongrel and glad he got over the stripe. Will give him confidence. Garrick and Mole the standouts. Forwards really good. With Paseka back next week, there’s a bit of competition there. Feel for the Warriors. Look lost, tough few years.

FT Sea Eagles 44 Warriors 12 No DCE and Tommy T? No worries for Manly. They continue their unbeaten record at 4 Pines Park this season. Manly started off well and never let the intensity down until the final 15 mins or so. Olakau'atu was my POTM today as he bullied the Warriors left edge. As for the Warriors, the pain continues. You get the feeling by their body language that they're just waiting for that homecoming and are just going through the motions.

Yep. Overall a good game. But all can come undone with a dumb round the back pass like that. He has an insanely high level of skill. He doesn’t need to show it off.
