Round 5 of the NRL season continues this afternoon when the Manly Sea Eagles and Penrith Panthers square off at 4 Pines Park in Sydney. Join The Roar for live scores from 5.30pm (AEDT).

Manly prop Matt Lodge is closing in on a return from his knee injury while Josh Schuster will stay in the NSW Cup for at least another week as he works his way back to full fitness after a disrupted pre-season. Ray Vaega is named in the extended bench with Tommy Talau set to start, as happened last week.

Panthers prop James Fisher-Harris is back from his shoulder problem but second-rower Scott Sorensen fails to overcome his knee injury. Mav Geyer goes back to the reserves with Daine Laurie coming onto the bench.

Prediction

Manly have tailed off after a hot start while the Panthers are remaining strong despite Nathan Cleary being out. Panthers by 8

Dragons beat manly more than they don’t, not sure why but I hate the dragons. Lol

Where there is smoke! I think Sam leaving saying what’s been said may hold some merit and may take a new coach to turn it around. It looks a hard case to crack from outside looking in.

He did manage to beat Dylan Brown in a foot race to the ball a few weeks back and Brown is no slouch

I would have paid good money to see him go toe-to-toe with Sam Burgess if Sammy could have somehow gone back in time. Big Sam, James Graham and JWH were born too late. Their style was best exemplified in the 70's.

It was a question, mate, not a statement. I was fortunate to see Fatty, Cliffy and O'Connor playing together so not Gen Z, sadly!

And you must be desperate to parrot Brian Waldron.. that line made him look so clever in 2008

Not until Latrell and Cody get serious, take a long walk down the hall of mirrors and Demetriou stops acting like Michael Scott in 'The Office' wanting to be everyone's friend instead of being their boss. Demetriou is all carrot and no stick.

Manly played extremely well. Well deserved win & they are playing a good style of game. Don’t know what they were doing last week, but a different side at Manly.

He seems to be pacing himself for the back end, his FB crack is B Stewart and Des coached him to avoid unnecessary injury encounters to play the back end so it’s obviously the plan to keep Turbo on the paddock .

Tom T. is still a great player but his speed was a real weapon. Tom T. in 2024 could start at the halfway line and Turbo of old could still beat him in a foot race starting from the Try line IMO.

Ditto. Well done to the Eagles and DCE for his record breaking night. And Nathan "Non-Sharon" Brown for a rough and tumble effort. Panthers are still super scary and a week off will definitely help them. Tonight won't hurt them come semis.
