Round 18 of the NRL premiership concludes this afternoon when the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles take on the Sydney Roosters at 4 Pines Park in Brookvale. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4:05pm (AEST).
I don’t want to be overly dramatic. After all, there are 10 rounds left in the regular season. However, a loss for either club this afternoon will likely have them two wins outside the 8 plus percentage. With such a logjam of teams in front, the loser’s season is likely done.
The Sea Eagles improved on their rout by the Eels the previous week, but still lost 24-6 last start to a Storm side missing Cameron Munster. With Tom Trbojevic now ruled out for the season, the blow torch is being applied to the rest of this Sea Eagles team.
Much will rest on the shoulders of Daly Cherry-Evans. If he can play regularly close to his State of Origin form, maybe there is life without Turbo.
The Sea Eagles have some big names returning, with Jake Trbojevic, Jason Saab, Kelma Tuilagi, Ben Trbojevic and Brad Parker all in the side.
The Roosters continue to be low on confidence. Last weekend, Jamal Fogarty bombed the Roosters into submission. James Tedesco is normally assured against the high ball but he had a poor game by his standards.
The Roosters still have a strong squad. They just can’t get it together. Joey Manu and Luke Keary were both good in patches last weekend. They will need to both figure largely again to beat Manly.
Joseph Suaalii returns from suspension and Fletcher Baker from a head knock in a plus for the Roosters. However, Angus Crichton and Sitili Tupouniua are out with injury and Egan Butcher is missing through concussion protocols.
We know that the Sea Eagles are a different proposition at home. We also know that Manly are a better team with Jake Trbojevic listed to play.
You would think the Roosters will have to turn their season around at some point but I don’t think it is going to happen at Brookvale. Sea Eagles by 8

Just don't seem to gel properly as a team. Being played out of proper positions isn't helping either. Too many dumb penalties as well. And tbh, they are not as quick as some of the other teams

No doubt Robbo will blame the Refs , instead of his chargers

Trent should be concentrating on his team. Rooster supporters like me are sick of the old woe is crap that he spews out

Manly are one of a few clubs that can never get 50/50 calls at home, if it was alliance we lose, only the Wiley DCE got Manly home. Roosters defence was grey but they were 2 meters offside every tackle so go Manly!

Both sides have a welcome bye next week before difficult assignments in Round 20. The Sea Eagles are home against the Cowboys and the Roosters are home against the Storm

Last set really summed up our season. Full set on Manly’s line and we didn’t fire a shot. Should of won that game easily but we just kept giving away penalties and costly 7 tackle sets.

The Roosters have thrown everything at the Sea Eagles this afternoon but Manly have just held on. DCE's kicking game kept Manly in it during the second half before a Schuster pass put the Sea Eagles in front. The Roosters went from side to side in the last few minutes and seemed destined to score. Great Sea Eagles edge defence held the tri-colours out

Nice to watch a normal game after the last few weird ones. Good effort by both teams, impressive crowd as well considering how the Sea Eagles are going.
