Round 9 of the NRL Premiership continues this afternoon when the Manly Sea Eagles take on the Wests Tigers at 4 Pines Park. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3.00pm AEST.
The Tigers revival hit a roadblock last weekend. They will have a hard job getting their show back on the road this week, with the Sea Eagles getting closer to full strength.
Although they lost against the Rabbitohs last round, Des Hasler would have been really pleased with how the Sea Eagles dealt with the adversity of being one man down.
Daly Cherry Evans and Kieran Foran were in everything against South Sydney, which bodes well for this week. They have also unearthed some potential gems in Christian Tuipulotu and Tolutau Koula, who both caused multiple problems for the Rabbits’ defence.
With Jason Saab and Brad Parker out with injury, Manly get a boost with Tom Trbojevic’s return. Ben Trbojevic takes Parker’s spot with Reuben Garrick shifting to the wing. Haumole Olakau’atu returns from suspension and Josh Aloiai is also listed to return on the bench.
After two one point wins, the Tigers mini revival came to an end last weekend with a 12-6 loss to the Dragons. They were in the match right until the final siren, and won’t prove easybeats for the Sea Eagles this afternoon.
Jackson Hastings has proved the difference over the past 3 weeks, marshalling his troops well and releasing the pressure valve on Luke Brooks.
Luciano Leilua and David Nofoaluma are both unavailable for selection, with their spots taken by Alex Seyfarth and Ken Maumolo. Stefano Utoikamanu and Tyrone Peachey both return from injury via the bench.
Prediction
The Tigers have knocked off the Eels and the Rabbitohs and would be keen to add another large scalp to their list today.
But at Brookvale, and with Manly no doubt keen to make up for last week’s loss, I can’t see another upset in this one.

Hi AMD. Yeah it always tough for the team that aren’t ‘powerhouses’. Part of the ‘retirement village’ thing was older players good, bad and ordinary was that move go to these places and give half an effort or switch off entirely. I think he is a good buy for them and my fingers are crossed he don’t kick back into cruise control.

Really? I think that’s ok for them

Sounds good. Will be an interesting read.

Yeah, 2 years at about $400k per annum isn't outrageous, but he's not Cooper Cronck or Jimmy Maloney - somebody likely to leave a legacy. Though I can understand the Titans not being sold on Sexton.

Always has been - I've been working on an article about rugby league on the Gold Coast and the RL retirement village is one of the themes.

Entertaining game of football this afternoon with the Sea Eagles having a little too much class. The Tigers battled against a fair bit of adversity and won't lose any fans today

Not sure I like it. Smells of another desperate Titans overs play for a has been like the bad old days. I get their need for maturity in the spine but he hasn't had a good record outside of Manly.

Good question from FOX Sports Andrew Voss... how can a Manly player who is offside make a tackle to stop a TRY (Simpkin) and not get sin-binned?
