No it’s not. Olakau’atu didn’t lift Lane in any way. He wrapped his arms around his waist and drove straight. Lane got upended over DCE’s hip. If DCE doesn’t use his horrible Cumberland throw technique then Ola’s tackle is absolutely textbook.

To’o and Addo Carr are the two form wingers? Really? Remind me who is leading Dally M count again? Tupou vs To’o: 5 tries to 2, 9 line breaks to 2.

Simonsson knocks Lawton over – jumps on his back and pulls him to the ground taking Lawton out of contest for the kick. Parra score in the corner. No complaints from Arthur.

Brad Arthur claims Trbojevic offside before Eel's sin-bin - and he might have been right

Don’t agree. Olakau’atu wrapped his arms around the waist and drove. There was no lifting action. Lane was upended by DCE’s Cumberland throw. DCE should be suspended. Nothing Ola could have done would have made a lick of difference.

Gutho fumes at 'stupid' Sivo as Parra throw away lead to lose AGAIN - but should Manly worry about Haumole?

He needs to learn to pass the ball. Had 2 on 2 break down the sideline with Sivo off, Saab (the fastest man in the league) being marked by a rookie halfback. And Garrick tries to go himself and is easily handled.

Olakau’atu wraps his arms around Lane’s waist and drives. He doesn’t put his hand between the legs and he doesn’t lift. Lane only gets upended because DCE uses his hip as a lever to throw Lane. Fair enough if DCE suspended – and frankly I’d like to see that tackle eliminated. But there is nothing Olakau’atu could have done differently to mitigate.

Think up an appropriate penalty for lateness – even easier.

Interesting article, Mary. But I think maybe with Lomax you are kinda comparing apples to oranges. Or maybe fresh oranges to dehydrated and reconstituted oranges (to stretch the metaphor). No doubt he is playing exponentially better as a winger under Flanagan’s coaching than he was as a centre under Hook’s coaching. But the entire team is playing better – and they haven’t all been moved to the wing. It’s possible that perhaps Lomax would have hit the same heights in his preferred position – because he’s under a better coach with a better system. I sincerely doubt that if Hook had moved Lomax to the wing it would have had the same result.

The Kyrgios case of Latrell and Lomax: Star duo need to put what's best for the team ahead of individual interests

At least I own it 😊 Given your comment about clubs going backwards with a new coach you must have already forgotten what’s happened in the last 6 weeks?

Too old, too slow: Do these two stats explain why Souths have fallen off a cliff in 2024?

The only significant stat Edwards is significantly better than Tedesco is Kick Return Metres. Which is a factor of how Panthers choose to return the ball, and of how often opposing teams are forced to kick long because they are being pinned in their half by Panthers’ dominant forward pack.
Tedesco has significantly higher Tackle Effectiveness, less Line Break Causes and less Try Causes – even though the Panthers have conceded less tries than the Roosters. Edwards’ most useful position in Origin is on the wing.

Wild idea but Blues should actually pick Origin team on form this time around - and that means Tedesco’s time is up

Tigers and Dragons are both on track to do better this year than last year after having coaches sacked. And why would you fart in a vinegar bottle? Can’t be good for either participant in that exchange.

Too old, too slow: Do these two stats explain why Souths have fallen off a cliff in 2024?

This is the same David Furner who was defensive coach for the Tigers last year when they conceded more points than any team other than the Bulldogs? And he’s going to fix Souths’ defensive problems? Oooookaaaaay….

Rabbitohs call on veteran Furner to fix leaky defence

But Albo, don’t you know the Panthers never steal players from other clubs?

Fisher-Harris on his way out of Panthers to join NRL rivals after 'one of the game's elite players' gets early release

Sure. Cut him. Send him to the Tigers. We’ve got a couple of halves, a hooker and a fullback who will actually pass him the ball in the right part of the field. Doggies can have ‘Bud’ Sullivan. We’ll throw him in for free! 😂 😂 😂

Don't believe the hype: Why did Bulldogs fork out big bucks for the most overrated player in the NRL?

Nice to see some love for the Tigers. I’m hopeful but not even close to confident. However…

When the battle for the spoon plays out at Campbelltown on Sunday

Stuart!!??? Tigers are sitting in 9th with 2 wins – the same number as Roosters, Broncos, Knights, Dogs and Eels. With PD of -3 – the same as Knights and better than Dogs and Eels.
Dragons while up and down are at least up some of the time.

Meanwhile Titans have an outstanding 0 wins and PD of -85
Rabbitohs have 1 win and PD of -90, injuries, suspensions and a likely coach exit.

Have another look at it TB. JWH is past Edwards’ line. Edwards is running parallel to the goal line and changes his line, deviating towards JWH. Sure JWH could / should have made sure he was well out of the way. And I’m happy for that to be a penalty even if it’s milked – but only if it’s consistent.

Obstruction turning a 'simple' game into complicated mess of decoys and defenders milking penalties

JWH was in front of the ball and he got in the way of a defender. Both make it a penalty…

Liam Martin was in front of the ball and got in the way of 2 defenders – Tupouniua and Keary for the Turuva try. Apparently that didn’t make it a penalty. It’s the inconsistency that galls.

Obstruction turning a 'simple' game into complicated mess of decoys and defenders milking penalties

Fair enough. But my main issue with it is that Edwards changes the line he is running – he’s running parallel to the goal line from a metre out from it, then see JWH in front of him and actually swerves towards him, running into his back, when if he had just continued on the line he was running he would have run past him and … well … maybe stopped the try and maybe not. But he milked the penalty. Good luck to him, perhaps. But then we have the inconsistency of Tupouniua and Keary being taken out by contact initiated by the decoy runner actually in the defensive line… and that try is allowed to stand. If it’s a black and white rule with no discretion, fair enough, but there is something seriously wrong when it’s so inconsistently applied.

Obstruction turning a 'simple' game into complicated mess of decoys and defenders milking penalties

Wests didn’t deserve to win because of the free gifts they gave to Parra via penalties and dropped ball.

Error rate was about even – with Tigers actually having a higher completion rate. Penalties were 10 to 3 against the Tigers. A lot of them were very soft. I am a Tigers fan, but was their discipline really more than 3 times worse than Parra’s?

Hail Sezer! Veteran slots field goal to deliver fairytale Tigers win as Galvin announces himself NRL's hottest talent

Thanks for sharing that. It does clarify. It’s a question of force. I accept that Wighton’s tackle didn’t result in the required level of force to be deemed a hip drop under the current definition. Though I still have concerns that that was a matter of chance rather than good management. The technique still really worries me. But I am a worrier. (Years of supporting the Tigers will do that to you 😂 ).

NRL Round 4 judiciary: Hip-drop drama as Benji and Bennett wade in, Latrell charged, Morrin in strife

‘Appeal to Authority’ is a shaky argument. Appeal to massively inconsistent authority even shakier. Maybe I am arguing that it should be reclassified – if the current definition specifies that the tackler’s weight has to finish on top of the tackled player’s legs (I don’t know if this is what the definition in current rules and regulations says as I’ve not seen it). Regardless of how the rule is worded atm, I genuinely don’t think Wighton’s tackle was ok. You do. As MR seems to have also. I guess we just have to agree to disagree on this one.
