Round 20 of the NRL concludes on Sunday with the Parramatta Eels taking on the Gold Coast Titans at CommBank Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 6.15pm AEST.
State of Origin is over and the downhill run into the semi finals has begun. For the Titans, semi final football really starts now. They can ill afford to fall 2 wins plus a poor for and against outside of the 8.
After winning 5 straight, the Eels came crashing back to earth with a 46-10 loss to the Warriors last weekend. Parramatta did have some excuses however with Mitchell Moses, Clint Gutherson and Reagam Campbell-Gillard all missing due to Origin duty.
The Eels are built off one of the best front row combinations in the competition. If they can establish dominance in the middle, Moses can control territory through his kicking game and an exciting Parramatta backline can kick into gear.
Clint Gutherson, Reagan Campbell-Gillard and Mitchell Moses have all been named to play following Origin. Ryan Matterson moves back to the bench and Ofahiki Ogden drops out of the 17. Shaun Lane has been named to start.
The Titans let a chance slip last weekend, losing 23-21 in golden point to the Dolphins. They were missing Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, David Fifita, Moeaki Fotuaika and AJ Brimson, but had their chances to win a game that would have had them sitting on the edge of the 8.
The Titans are, on paper at least, a strong side. A pack brimming with Origin talent, experienced halves and a dangerous backline. Defence has been their issue, leaking second half points.
Maroons forwards Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, Moeaki Fotuaika, David Fifita and AJ Brimson have been named to back up from Origin III. Jayden Campbell gets a spot on the bench. Jaimin Jolliffe and Joe Stimson will miss the game through injury and concussion respectively.
It is at this time of year that some teams make their move and others start their decline. Unfortunately, for the Titans, their decline may have already started.
The Eels, at home, should be too strong. Eels by 14

Hahaha…. You’re the one whining - I’m just calling you out on it We had this conversation a fortnight ago. Every time a Queensland side loses, you howl refs fault like a 5 year old…

Get over your pathetic NSW whining Barry. They’re no better than the Dogs breakfast you cry about.

His leg looks to be on the ground out before getting it down on the front on view. The aerial view ? Clueless unless you want to sell it as inclusive. Over rule? It should be conclusive to over rule.

And, as usual, here come the chorus of cookers. Neither the referee or the Bunker cost the Titans the game, and the conspiracy theorists claiming the NRL want the Eels in the finals need to have their heads read. The Titans had more penalties and more six again calls, and had a 2 man advantage at one point. Parramatta deservedly had two sin bins, and they should’ve been down by a lot more at half time. The Titans game management was abysmal. Their last set was completely run of the mill and they had no idea what to do. Their last 5 minutes were that of a team that had lost their nerve - go back and watch the set up for Tanah Boyd’s field goal attempt. The only two decisions I can see as even slightly contentious were Gutho’s try and RCG’s sin bin. First, the try - I had a question mark about a possible knock on in the lead up but 50/50 at best. As for the grounding, two different camera angles seemed to show his knee above the ground. Fair try. RCG’s sin bin was questionable because I think he’s genuinely lucky that he wasn’t sent off. I’d have no issue seeing him marched for that; it was careless at best, and a dodgy cheap shot at worst. Neither side had their best game and either could have feasibly won but suggesting that Chris Butler or Grant Atkins were the reason for the result is pathetic.

He’s playing great every week… he’s always played tough, but he’s so consistent now…

The titans challenged the offside and still lost. What else do you want?Titans got more penalties. They had just as many advantages (the sin bins - which were justified) but weren’t good enough.

It seems to work for them.. far from ignoring it the bloody refs reward their awful behaviour

Yep I remember you said it. Agreed at the time as well, but it’s so frustrating to see.

My issue with the bunker was not the mm in the Gutho put down... it was the blatant knock on from Simmonson in the lead up!

Sorry Titans supporters you just aren’t playing under the same rules as this Eels team. It’s obvious they are looking to get the Eels a premiership. Go back and look at the rubbish the officials have given the Eels tonight. Sivo dropped the ball in a contest with a player a metre behind the kicker?

Would have liked to see GC win but Parra were just too good in the end. Players that impressed me tonight were Jayden Campbell and Bryce Cartwright who is playing as well as ever. One not to impress is Mitchell Moses who is becoming a real sook. Good for his team but a blot for RL. Blokes like he and Luai can turn some against their respective teams.
