Round 21 of the NRL premiership continues tonight when the South Sydney Rabbitohs take on the Brisbane Broncos at Sunshine Coast Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 8pm (AEST).

We get a battle tonight between two teams with top 4 aspirations. Whilst the Broncos are already sitting in that bracket, the Rabbitohs need to string some wins together, starting with this match.

The Rabbitohs enjoyed the bye last week but suffered a 4 point loss to the Bulldogs the round before. The result carried a big asterisk however, with South Sydney decimated by Origin and injury. That won’t be the case in this game.

The Rabbitohs have a pack boasting some underrated props and exceptional back row. Cameron Murray and Damien Cook will look to create some momentum in the ruck. From there, Cody Walker can weave his magic.

There are some massive inclusions for the Rabbitohs. Latrell Mitchell, Campbell Graham and Jai Arrow all return from injury. Origin stars Keaon Koloamatangi, Walker, Cook and Murray also return to what becomes a very strong line up.

The Broncos have nicely negotiated the Origin period. They eventually coasted to a 44-24 win over the Bulldogs last weekend, which was a potential banana skin given the retirement of Josh Reynolds.

Whilst Brisbane do have a star studded pack and backline, it is Adam Reynolds who is holding this team together. His kicking game is first class and the Broncos are a legitimate premiership chance with him.

The Broncos get their fair share of big inclusions as well, with Reece Walsh and Payne Haas returning from suspension and injury respectively. Patrick Carrigan also returns after getting a rest from the Bulldogs game.

Prediction

In retrospect, the Rabbitohs may have preferred that this game be played at Accor Stadium rather than on the Sunshine Coast Stadium.

The battle up front will go a long way to decide this one. I don’t think there will be much in it, but Adam Reynolds’ kicking game will give the Broncos a bit more ball in the attacking zone. That should be enough. Broncos by 2

I doubt he has what it takes. He would need to plan, take charge & lead & I don't see any of that, in him.

Broncs really put their foot down in the second half and looked much more cohesive in the second half… geez they looked dangerous on the right with Walsh sweeping. He’s so good to watch… shows what running at the line at pace can do. Holds the ball in both hands… shapes to pass… shapes to pass… then BOOM… he’s stepped and gone. Even when you know it’s coming it’s hard to stop Souths looked tired, off the pace especially in the middle. Cody looked dangerous but didn’t get enough ball at the right end. How much difference can Latrell make, especially coming off a calf that’s obviously still not right. He’s been out since Origin 1, which was 8-9 weeks ago… Taaffe is going ok at 1. Maybe Latrell comes back at left centre initially Despite all that I’m not quite ready to write Souths off. They’re not miles away, despite a disappointing performance tonight. They’ve got Tigers, Sharks, Dragons, Knights, bye, Roosters to come and have had some injury / Origin interruptions

Well if that’s the case, put a line through Souths. They are just making up numbers.

Munro must be injured. He's too good not to be in the team.

The Rabbits travel to Tamworth for a match against the Tigers that they simply need to win

Souths look to be done for the year. A team can't concede 392 points in 19 games and win the comp. They have the talent but something is missing with them, something JD has to find before they annoy another team. Wonder what they think about Reynolds.

After a sloppy first half, the Broncos stepped up their game in the second half and the Rabbitohs couldn't keep up. It was an impressive statement and suggests they will have a long run in the finals

Statement win by the Broncos, they will be tough to beat at the pointy end of the season.

you're right, it's just a sad old line trotted out at this time of year as the big excuse. Getting tiring.

Well done Broncs. Better team by a fair way. .South's can still make the 8 but that's the premiership done.
