Just like all the players that play for Parra and Broncs are from those areas? Face it mate, a lot of sport is "contrived". So, with that in mind I had absolutely no problem with the contrived crowd noise, and I even think they should pipe it into the ground itself so the players can hear it.
When I first heard about this I was horrified.
After witnessing it in action I am a fan. It wasn't too intrusive and just gave the game that background noise that you don't notice until it's gone.
I liken it to an escalator that isn't working. Sure you can walk up it just like stairs, but as soon as you step on and it doesn't move your brain just doesn't like it. That, to me, is the footy without crowd noise.
"It’d be a pretty fun job being the bloke on the buttons..."
....absolutely Baz. Paul Kennedy on ABC this morning said pretty much the same thing - it would certainly be a hoot controlling those buttons.
TBH I initially thought that my tinnitus was acting up - true! ;)
I didn’t mind it
It’s not like the NRL is trying to trick punters into thinking there are crowds there
It’s not make or break but it added a little something for mine to have a bit of background noise, even if it was artificial.
It’d be a pretty fun job being the bloke on the buttons, when to launch a cheer, or a “ooooooohh”. I’d probably be overdoing it on the “been doin it all day” button or the “get em onside” button
They should get a “off, off, off, off” button for when an away team player is getting cautioned
I think it will be quite similar to television shows. If the content is good, as it was last night, most won't notice it, but I suspect if the game's ordinary, people will focus on everything BUT the game, including the canned crowd noise.
In saying that,I don't think it adds to the viewing. I didn't need it to enjoy watching that game.

I didn't mind it. Was quite subtle, which was a surprise. I expected them to overdo it.

I hated it. Its fake. I thought to myself when I was watching that it insults the veiwers intelligence as every one is aware there are no crowds.

Yep I thought they were unusually subtle with it. I’d like it to continue.

I thought it was great. Anything tv can do to make the game feel like it’s being watched by as many people as it is is a good thing
