Exactly right MaxP, He knew this question was coming, so why are more professional response was not prepared. Sums up his tenure really!! This is professional sport and you are judged on your results not on your feelings getting hurt when you lose.
Im not sure what else he could have said here. But i am sure he would have been expecting this question and prepared with this response before going into the conference, which to me says he is wanting the public to be sympathetic and trying to make the journalist feel guilty for asking the question.
This press conference summed it all up. A professional coach would have been prepared for that question as it was pretty obvious given the circumstances and his previous statements. A professional coach would have responded with grace “look, my priority is to help the team get through this. They have worked hard and are disappointed. Once they’ve taken it all in, I’ll start thinking about myself “
If I am allowed to comment with just one word.

Deans was an ordinary test coach and had the best crop of players coming through since the Eagles era at his disposal (Pocock, Genia, O’Connor, Ioane, Beale, Cooper pre knee recon, Horwill pre knee recon).
If you combined Dingo’s man-management with Chieka’s selections & tactics we’d be ranked lower than Namibia
It is clear that Coach Cheika directed the team : do Not kick, Aussie style is to run the ball, even out of own own territory. It's now obvious the strategy was going to reinvent how rugby should be played, or implode in your face.
The journalist erred in his question, probably due to lack of research. It is on the record Cheika would quit if the Wallabies did not win the World Cup.
It will save the ARU from a meeting as there is really no decision to make here. Australia is in a shambolic state at the moment. Not much hope other than juniors.
I support the wallabies, and when they are out of contention I go for los pumas.
I know my bad luck. After suffering this conman for four agonizing years he surely will land as coach of los pumas, damn!
So the bloke who has regularly, inappropriately, and embarrassingly criticised referees at post-game press conferences in now asking for compassion because he is hurting? I hate this bloke with a passion. I would never have thought that a single person could make me stop enjoying the Wallabies, but Cheika has managed. Get out of here you miserable prick.
Oh the poor dear, after all the crap he has dished out to others... Then he pleads for compassion? Innocuous question in any event, all he had to say was 'haven't thought about it', for the good of Australian Rugby please go Mr Cheika.

He seemed to be lining himself up to continue somehow. Just like Folau said that he would leave it seems he has a short memory of his own statement.

That's exactly what they thought of 'Dingo' Deans too!
