He’s right. Inmates running the asylum. Sport is physical, ergo physical standards will be measured and monitored. Get over it millenials.

'The world's gone mad': Matthew Lloyd reacts to the news there'll be no more skinfold testing for draftees

We’ve got to break the cycle of selecting on the basis of who you know. (Randwick boys) Walking back into the Wallabies on the basis of a bit of form with Randwick is just commentators barracking for their mates. Worse, it flies in the face of the core issue of developing players to fill roles for RWC 2027.

The judiciary is having a laugh. Different penalties for ‘good’ headbutts and ‘poor’ headbutts? They’re just headbutts and should be stamped out.

Is it not concerning that Smurphy didn’t pull up play straight away for the obvious elbow to the head?

Rugby News: Beale 'laser focused' on Wallabies return, coach fury at ban for 'malicious' headbutt

Koro is a like a bullet train, covers both wings, wounds in the tackle and is OK under the high ball. He’s the hybrid. Toole is the finisher. The finishing Toole as it were. IMO.

The astounding numbers that must propel Corey 'Rocket Man' Toole into a Wallabies jersey

He is a “give him the ball” type of player which the Wallabies could use.

I was reflecting on 10 years of failure – lots of blah blah but not backing it up on the field. The last thing we need is journalists confecting “mind games”.

Let the mind games begin ... What Razor's expecting to see from Joe's Wallabies

For those not aware 26th Jan isn’t even the day the first fleet arrived to Australian shores. It’s when they sailed around from Botany Bay into Sydney Harbour to start New South Wales.

Which begs the question why is it so controversial and need to be changed?

Whatever date is chosen, symbolically it will still represent the subjugation of the indigenous inhabitants, to their descendants, presumably. Rejecting Australia Day and its date is just kicking the can down the road for a bigger conversation. Who are Australians, what is Australia and when did it come into being? Is it possible to celebrate that collectively? Or should it become a commemoration?

Rugby News: Wallaby with 'drive for perfection' inks new deal, Kepu loses captaincy, Farrell says 'au revoir' to England

Less talk and more action from the Wallabies. We know where they stand. Just a good, gritty showing against NZ is all that’s required. Don’t try to do everything in the first year. Rebuild. Sort out the cattle.

“We’ll get beaten by the Kiwis in July and August and everyone will go, ‘Oh well, that was a dud!,’ we’ll sack him (Joe Schmidt) and we’ll be back in the same position again.”

Garbage. We know that Australia has systemic problems that will not be fixed overnight. People that say things like Greg Martin fail to see the big picture. If our SR teams are not winning then neither will the Wallabies against our Kiwi brothers. It’s going to take a sustained period of effort to turn the ship around, and commentary such as that offered by Martin reflects exactly the same attitude circulating when Eddie was appointed. One bloke is not going to be the solution, it’s just the very beginning of the start of the journey back into the top three nations in the World. If Australia and its fans have the stomach for the task that will likely take a decade if not more.

'I took it hard': RWC heartache that saw snubbed Wallabies star get off the grid - and the inspiration driving him now

So what you’re saying is he deserves everything he gets including unhinged vitriol?

I would imagine the post match review would reveal all his mistakes and bad decisions. Naturally, all done behind closed doors and appropriately ‘called out’.

Is it the fans’ job to tell him how to play and act? I’d be inclined to go with what his coach and team mates say about him.

'Irish d--khead': Gatland reveals 'sinister' trolling as rugby reacts to 'shameful' and 'shocking' Farrell abuse

In years gone by, walking away from a National team spot for a mental health break (as if it would be called that), players would have been castigated for being ‘soft’ or ‘weak’ or lacking desire or motivation. In other words, good riddance.

It’s nice to think that these days, players, coaches and fans react in far more intelligent and nuanced ways. If some fans weren’t unbalanced enough to issue death threats (to players, refs and families) then the need for mental health breaks would arguably not be necessary. Some fans should probably follow Faz’s lead and take a break from social media and give everyone else a rest from the vitriol.

Whether Farrell deserves criticism is not the issue. He plays to the laws of the game and if he transgresses then the official are responsible for punitive action. If fans/media don’t agree with the sanctions, it doesn’t excuse taking it out on the player. And once an incident has been picked over for a few years, there is little to no value in dredging it up over and over again. Some fans seem to suffer from the delusion that they know a player’s character based on watching a few games on the TV.

Nothing turns me off a conversation quicker than fans bringing up straw man arguments about perceived or real injustices from yesteryear as if somehow this mitigates or rationalises what is happening today.

Being a keyboard warrior myself, I can but ponder how I would deal with the pressure of the media and the fans in today’s environment with today’s social media access and relentless scrutiny on every decision in a game. It cannot be easy for any athletes in that position.

'Warning was there': Owen Farrell makes surprising decision after 'appalling' 'absurd' treatment

A stint overseas is a good way of keeping the bank account ticking over and prolonging a playing career (on the presumption that Japan is not as demanding physically as SR). Far from being precious, the reality is more players are realising that sacrificing dollars for a national jersey can only be done for so long – at some point they have to maximise their earning potential. Whereas these players may have been the exception previously, now it is de rigueur.

Was Cheika really a candidate? I’d be very surprised if the Board were seriously considering it.

I hope they are running the numbers on Joe Schmidt. If available, and Kiwi notwithstanding, his IP would be priceless.

Rugby News: RA hunting missing million after contract blunder, Suaalii worth 10x more than his deal, McKellar's big win

All the buzzwords, all the buzz phrases as per usual. The players need to knuckle down and start beating NZ/Pacific teams consistently in Super Rugby otherwise any thoughts of success at a home World Cup are just dreams.
