Brad Scott bows out: Roos coach to forego final year of contract

By The Roar / Editor

North Melbourne coach Brad Scott won’t coach the club next year, despite being contracted until the end of 2020.

Although not yet confirmed by coach or the club, it has been reported by numerous sources that North and Scott have come to a mutual agreement which will see his contract terminated early.

It’s not clear how much of the remaining 2019 season Scott will lead the club through. He could hold the reins till the end of the year, but it’s also possible that this week’s match against the Western Bulldogs will be his last.

Given that the cat now appears to be out of the bag, it would seem most likely that Scott will exit the club sooner rather than later.

It is believed that North’s football manager Cam Joyce and list manager Michael McMahon are also set to leave the club at some stage in 2019.

The decision between North Melbourne and Scott appears to be an entirely mutual one, with some suggestion being made that Scott is a serious chance to gain a senior coaching job elsewhere, should one become available.

Carlton would appear a strong possibility if speculation around the future of Brendon Bolton remains true, while St Kilda and Essendon have also been thrown up as club who could be looking for a new senior coach.

Meanwhile, the search for the club’s next senior coach will soon get underway at North Melbourne.

I know you're keen on Ratten Kane but my mate's Blues mail is usually spot on. He tipped Fasolo going there before any media even spoke of it.

Rossy will have his contract extended at Freo. He won't be a player in coaching movements over east.

So Brad got the boot and good riddance. Basically just a bully who has often had dummy spits. Norths have never looked like being anything special under him and really he should have been gone a while back. If he gets another gig he'll fail again. He's just a grumpy old man now.

Fair enough. I have been a genuine admirer of Geelong for as long as I can remember. Not so the Scott bros.

Rose coloured glasses from m opposition fans about their own teams. The Swans game plan has delivered success second only to a very few teams and above and beyond in a sum of the parts way. The object of this comp is to get more wins than losses, how you do it is subject to an incredibly complex set of variables. I can remember thinking of numerous teams playing that kick and blast style of game and getting nowhere; why? I think an appreciation of game style is mostly a question of what footy values you value most. Obviously the swannies don’t appeal to you.

No just stick with the boring defensive game style. Maybe you can give Brendan Bolton a second crack

Blues not chasing Scott would sum up how much of a basket case Carlton are. How Brad Scott is not a Head coach of AFL team tomorrow and Brendan Bolton is absolutely laughable, If Brad Scott had at least dozen 1st round picks in the last how many years he wouldn’t have the coaching record Bolton does

Sometimes those earning the big bucks stray from the journalistic ethics. Personal vendettas can end up pretty messy. Kingy may love the club but that don't mean his negative commentary didn't or won't make things worse. Whats that they say about the highway to hell is paved with good intentions? I just think they lost a good one. Doesn't mean they won't find another.

Well, some genuinely forgiving statements of support even from supporters of others clubs. The reality is Brad has been totally ineffective as a development coach at NM and hasn’t won anything, just floated around the ladder like a unwelcome plastic bag in the ocean. His brother at Geelong? Wow talk about landing at the end of the rainbow. A prem in year one totally accountable to the playing group, and their great form ditto for many years following. Very good team again this year, but the results along the way have been poor in terms of genuine opportunity taken.

Brad Scott will not be welcome at the Sydney Swans.

You would have to think Scott is a frontrunner to replace Bolton, but would be happier if Carlton made a play for Lyon and Freo got Scott. Horse seems to be regenerating Sydney quite well so I can't see Scott headed there. Scott wouldn't want to go to another poor club like St Kilda... Essendon could also be keen. Don't think there are other clubs looking at senior coaches atm. Carlton, Freo, and Essendon are likely contenders for his services... perhaps he might fancy a break from Melbourne media spotlight and head West.

Yeah, I felt mixed about Chris's extension. He's done a great job transitioning the list, just wasn't sure he could get us that final step. The changes in the game plan/style this year have been good so I have to give him due credit.

Scott has a job somewhere he would not be risking his $750,000 next year to go looking. It looks like Carlton, maybe Sydney.
