Melbourne Storm star filmed in alleged Bali brawl

By The Roar / Editor

Video footage which allegedly shows Melbourne Storm prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona engage in a brawl outside a nightclub in Bali has been referred to the NRL Integrity Unit.

The footage was posted on Twitter on Sunday and it’s understood that both the NRL and the Melbourne Storm have been alerted to its existence.

Asofa-Solomona is currently holidaying in Bali with teammates including Suliasi Vunivalu and Tui Kamickamicka, two weeks after the Storm’s season came to an end at the hands of the Sydney Roosters.

The owner of a Bali nightclub released security vision to Nine News of an incident from just before the altercation, alleging Vunivalu had been attacked inside the venue, which led to Asofa-Solomona’s retaliation on the street.

Not even newsworthy for Indonesia. Their own soccer league is non stop violence to the point that spectator deaths are pretty common. A bit of a scuffle in the street is small potatoes by comparison.

Could have been much worse than a few cuts to the head by the sounds of it , I wonder when we get to hear the other side of the story?

Lodge has declined the captaincy I think. Probably the smartest thing he's done to date, although the bar has been set pretty low

You can't seriously compare the two. De Belins' case is still before the courts, so nothing had been proven yet. Yes he's guilty of making poor choices, but the alleged rape is just that. We have pretty clear footage of NAS throwing haymakers outside a bar. Not sure what the punishment should be but its a poor look if he fronts up for NZ regardless of the outcome of the investigation.

Considering all the fun and games last off season it will be interesting to see why the Storm thought it was a good idea to be in Bali surrounded by drunk Australians in the early hours of the morning. Is it that much fun that the risk was worth it? It will be interesting to see how accurate these reports from an unnamed witness end up being. Why did they surround Vinivalu?

For someone who was on here defending and wanting to give a scumbag like De Belin a fair go earlier in the year... you are playing judge, jury and executioner pretty quick on this one. If the reports are correct - should he have just stood by and watched Vunivalu get glassed? I certainly don’t condone violence and agree they are a bit thick to go to somewhere like Bali in the first place.... but if the other bunch of D heads king hit his teammate and were then about to attack him with a bottle - you can’t really expect a mate to just stand around and watch.

It's OK, commit a crime overseas, hurt people and damage properly, and you get to captain the Broncos.

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/they-were-going-to-bottle-him-why-storm-prop-started-swinging-20191014-p530kp.html Melbourne Storm prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona went on a search-and-destroy mission outside a popular Bali bar to prevent a drunken Australian tourist from smashing teammate Suliasi Vunivalu with a beer bottle. “They were going to ‘bottle’ him,” an eyewitness told the Herald. As the Kiwi international flew home to Melbourne to face NRL integrity unit investigators after the wild brawl in the upmarket beach province of Seminyak, the Herald has pieced together the events that led to the incident after speaking to several eyewitnesses. They have launched a passionate defence of Asofa-Solomona and his Storm teammates, who they say were provoked by a group of drunken Australian men at well-known bar La Favela in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to one eyewitness, the Storm players were drinking on the balcony of the bar when one player accidentally spilt their drink over the side. “The Aussie blokes downstairs rushed up and surrounded Vunivalu,” the eyewitness, who was not part of the Storm group but spoke on the condition of anonymity, said. “Then they king-hit him. You can imagine what the Storm blokes did next. “When it erupted, the bouncers threw them all out and they were out on the street. They were all out the front and that’s when the big fella [Asofa-Solomona] saw one of the blokes with a bottle in his hand. He was going to glass him [Vunivalu] — so he got in first.”

Not much of a surf in Central Europe, and league players are more into surfing than skiing at St Moritz. Maybe they prefer to flex it, rather then Brexit. Asia is the in place now. Anycase the latest is Suli was king hit by some idiot, and Nelson responded.Perhaps like the public, responded to an idiot in the Central business district recently, yes in a far more serious situation.

Maybe they wanted to party and get hammered with their fellow Aussie's and Kiwis......maybe they enjoy the attention (especially female) of being famous footballers rather than go somewhere where nobody recognises them. Bali is more in line with league players than Europe, as the great Luke Rooney once described the Czech Republic capital Prague when the Kangaroos were touring England - "None of us liked it, there was nothing to do. There were hardly any pubs, no TABs. I'd rather be in Penrith"

What it looks like is a whole lot of guys having a go at them. The disagreement was Vuni getting Coward punched inside. Should he just stood around quoting chapter and verse at them? Yes it's a poor location and situation to find themselves in but it also looks like some NASty lessons were just dished out to some deserving d/heads.

That's what I was thinking, he could have played the Mountain on GOT if he wasn't tied to a footy team. Ballsy. I will wait for the full report to come out before I judge anyone over this, there are always two sides to a story.
