REVEALED: The Wallabies team to play England (as voted for by you)

By The Roar / Editor

On Tuesday, we asked you to pick the team the Wallabies should run out with for their Rugby World Cup quarter-final against England. Now, we can reveal the results ahead of Michael Cheika’s official announcement later today.

With over 1200 votes, plenty of Roarers wanted to have their say on the way the Wallabies should line up against England.

There is little surprise that Dane Haylett-Petty won the race at the back, scoring 68 per cent of the vote to take the number 15 jersey. Kurtley Beale was second with almost 23 per cent, and no others gained enough support to warrant a mention.

That’s not to mention Haylett-Petty was also included as a winger in almost seven per cent of teams, but it’s Marika Koroibete and Jordan Petaia who get the nod in our side.

Koroibete was nearly a unanimous selection, picked in over 95 per cent of teams, while young gun Petaia was included in almost 62 per cent. Reece Hodge was the third option, but only had 28 per cent of the vote.

The race to be named outside centre was a much tighter affair, with James O’Connor just getting the nod ahead of Tevita Kuridrani, with the duo having 42 per cent and 39 per cent respectively.

The third man pushing for that spot, Samu Kerevi, will instead line up at inside centre where he was picked in 65 per cent of teams.

The halves were one-way traffic, with Christian Lealiifano and Nic White picked well ahead of their opposition.

Meanwhile, when it came to back-rowers, Michael Hooper, Isi Naisarani and David Pocock were well ahead of the rest with 81, 74 and 69 per cent respectively. The locks were also one-sided, with Rory Arnold claiming 86 per cent of the vote, and Izack Rodda 82.

Tolu Latu was one of the most popular picks, taking 83 per cent of the vote to be named at hooker, while Allan Alaalatoa and Scott Sio are the props with 78 and 67 per cent respectively.

The team picked by Roarers matches the team picked for the match against Wales in the forwards, and is almost exactly the same as the one who played against Fiji, with only changes from the tournament opener wanted by Roarers being Haylett-Petty in at fullback for Kurtley Beale, and Jordan Petaia playing on the wing for Reece Hodge.

The Roar’s team to play England in the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals

15. Dane Haylett-Petty (68%)
14. Jordan Petaia (61.7%)
13. James O’Connor (42.3%)

The issue is, even in attack it could go both ways. Petaia has never played outside Lealiifano or Foley, and he has only played about 100mins outside Kerevi, at the very start of the year. I just canny fathom this decision.

all that counts is attack right? I wonder how well Petaia will handle Tuilagi? Does he read the game well enough to stop the ball going wide or be able to shepherd the wing into touch? Doesn't matter, it is all about running the ball.

I'm sorry, whilst I'm not a fan of Cheika, this reads like a Trump twitter post. Sit back and try to enjoy life a bit more champ

@Hammer yeah and it's only because Cheika has burned and spurned all our other good backrow options. I include Fardy, McMahon, Gill, McCaffrey, Wright, Higginbothem. So we were only left with LSL (a lock playing out of position) or soft Dempsey. The available options were so poor Hooper had to get the nod :)

Latu was the only pick as the Clown gave him no competition for his spot. Faiingaa is not liked by Clown given no game time and Ulesese was injured most of the year.Another biased pick from Clown. Mafi and BPA not even considered but Tah TPN was given a farewell test.Cant wait till this Tah CLOWN is sacked.

Thanks for the link Bodger. I found this line there and laughed my head-off, so thanks for making my day. ‘If Australia don’t know what they are doing neither can England’

With zero recent experience there. It is great isn’t it how Wallaby players can play anywhere anytime.

Well it's taken almost 100 tests but Michael Hooper with 81% of the vote has finally turned the Roar selection panel around. A testament to how his passion and commitment can overcome his size and his Waratahness!

Very different backline. 4 or 5 changes from the Roarers team. JP is a really big punt!

Bravo selectors for making that brave call with the outside centre position. Bigger, faster, stronger and much more of an attacking threat than O’Conner.

Nah, backline will look different. Whilst I understand different people can choose different blokes for different reasons, all subjective. It blows my mind that Arnold, Rodda, Latu and Marika didn't each receive 100% of votes for their positions.

AAP reckon this is possibly the team and they got it right last week before the Georgia game so I reckon this is the team. Well done Roar.
