AFL reveals State of Origin sides for charity match

By Stirling Coates / Editor

Both Victoria and the All-Stars have revealed their squads for the upcoming State of Origin charity game, with the match set to take place at Marvel Stadium on Friday, February 28.

Every club has at least one representative – a requirement by the AFL – with last year’s grand finalists in Richmond and GWS having six players selected each.

Top-four finishers Brisbane and Collingwood are next best with five each, while, at the other end, Carlton, Essendon, Gold Coast and Melbourne only had one player selected each.

The AFL sent a list of eight players to each club that they wanted to select, with the clubs then confirming those lists or ruling particular players out with injury. The previously-announced three-player-per-club rule was mutually relaxed by the AFL and Players’ Association.

Victoria squad

Rory Sloane (ADE), Stefan Martin (BL), Darcy Moore (COL), Scott Pendlebury (COL), Steele Sidebottom (COL), Adam Saad (ESS), Mark Blicavs (GEE), Patrick Dangerfield (GEE), Jeremy Cameron (GWS), Toby Greene (GWS), Nick Haynes (GWS), Josh Kelly (GWS), Lachie Whitfield (GWS), James Sicily (HAW), Ben Cunnington (NM), Todd Goldstein (NM), Shaun Higgins (NM), Robbie Gray (PA), Trent Cotchin (RCH), Bachar Houli (RCH), Tom Lynch (RCH), Dustin Martin (RCH), Jade Gresham (STK), Jake Lloyd (SYD), Tom Papley (SYD), Marcus Bontempelli (WB), Jack Macrae (WB)

It's not arrogant when you're actually important.

Let's. Victoria's arrogance is only outdone by it's self-importance.

I’d sooner just donate some money and spend the match time reading the phone book or staring at a brick wall. At least the wall might be actually trying. Assuming you hadn’t hung an All Stars jumper on it.

Ahh yes it is only through manipulation of historic data that we see "The remarkable global warmth of 2019 means that the six warmest years on record since 1880 were the last six years—2014 through 2019."

Undisputable Fact? So how do you explain the University of California study that found; “Using revised inventories, improved thickness mapping, and time series of velocity and SMB, we present four decades of mass balance in Antarctica that reveal a mass loss during the entire period and a rapid increase (in rate) over the last two decades in parts of Antarctica closest to known or suspected sources of CDW from observations of high ice-shelf melt rates, ocean temperature, or based on ocean model output products.” Damn those scientists and their facts. I think you issue might be that you are using “square miles” to measure a 3 dimensional object. Have you ever melted an ice block on a saucer and refroze it – the area it covers increases dramatically but the volume is either the same or slightly less.

I have to agree with this. Besides, players won't be playing too seriously. I also see others criticising it, that if players aren't taking it seriously, what's the point. The point is this is an exhibition match for a charitable cause, and that we have the best players taking the field at the same time. Why would we not want to see Howe take some speccies (even if it means everyone including the opposition deliberately giving him a leg up or a launch pad), tons of dribble kicks, Dusty's don't argue, and probably lots of torps from outside 50! The midfielders will simply have no tags on them, everyone stands 1m back from where they would normally stand, it will be a much easier game where there's tons of space everywhere. No flooding. No stupid tackles. Easy.

Sorry bud, but you've been drinking the cool aid. Antarctica today is more than one million square miles bigger than it was in 1979...That is an undisputable fact. This indisputable fact could not happen if the things you claim are true.

Finally someone gets it. The only way you can get evidence pointing toward catastrophic climate change is if you go back and manipulate the historical data. ... which is what they have done. If you do this in any other field of human endeavor its called ''fraud'' but when you do it in the name of ''climate change'' its called homogenization. Climate change is simply the current new religion that has replaced the old ones.

Vics have a very strong lineup.... Im guessing Luke Shuey is injured since I think its inconceivable that he wasn't considered good enough to make a 9 man Victorian bench. But the Allies have some talent as well, have a look at their bench..... Patrick Cripps, Stephen Coniglio, Lachie Neale, Neville Jetta, Zach Tuohy, Taylor Walker, Callum Mills, Lachie Weller Scott Lycett . Crikey, I might have to put my money on those guys

Where the the criticism? Cynicism yes but no criticism. And not sure what is so "staggering" about being "unimpressed" that Forrest donated the equivalent (as a percentage on net wealth excluding the family home) of most Australians donating less than $100. I am more impressed with a local truckie who has donated his time and fuel doing more than half a dozen 1,400km round trips delivering Hay than I am with a multi-billionaire tipping in $70m and getting a $20m reduction in his tax.

Maybe you could research how Twiggy got Murrin Murrin mine underway by selling a story to poorly prepared Yanks. In other countries he'de still be sitting penniless in a jail cell. Always nice to spend others money. Govts do it all the time. And they make Twiggy look like a saint.

"Yet you characterize that as “standing on a street corner”, merely praying." Where? I specifically said "I will let others judge". I simply observed the obvious irony that the "urgent research" might not be so "urgent" if he hadn't fought against a carbon trading scheme in order to make his business more profitable. FWIW Forrest is worth US$8.7b or close to AUD$13b, $70m (before any tax reductions are accounted for) is about 0.5% of his net wealth.

You say this about a bloke who has committed to training 20,000 indigenous Australians for work in the Pilbarra, donating $10 million directly to victims of fire and $60 million to urgent research and, on top of that, he and his daughter are leading the world in working to eradicate modern slavery. Check out what the Mindaroo Foundation does. Yet you characterize that as "standing on a street corner", merely praying. Way to use the scriptures as a wet sponge! Thankfully, Twiggy is motivated by the correct application of scripture.

If he wants to donate it go for his life, every little bit helps but the irony is astounding. I will let others judge whether his actions rise to the level of "the hypocrites" who "love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others."
