Matt Lodge suffers suspected ACL tear, likely out for season

By News / Wire

Brisbane forward Matt Lodge could miss the entire NRL season after suffering a knee injury at training this week.

Matt Lodge could miss the entire NRL season with a knee injury, with scan results on Wednesday likely to reveal a partial ACL tear.

Lodge suffered the injury at training on Tuesday and is facing an eight-to-nine month lay-off if the worst-case scenario is confirmed, according to The Courier-Mail.

While the club is confident it is not a complete tear, Lodge’s absence would be a big blow after the forward emerged as one of the NRL club’s most important players last season.

The 24-year-old was set to start alongside Payne Haas in the front-row, having worked his way into NSW Origin discussions last year while also earning a promotion to the club’s leadership group this season.

It would be the fourth ACL injury before an official trial game has been played in the NRL off-season after similar setbacks for Sydney’s Billy Smith, Gold Coast captain Ryan James and Warriors prop Bunty Afoa.

The chooks do and have had their share of players who've found themselves in trouble. I don't feel the need to raise it every time their name is mentioned, that's all you. We are no where near pot & kettle.

If Lodge was a Rooster would you be so quick to forgive & defend him? And you label me a hypocrite. Pot. Kettle.

Paid by whom? In addition no amount of money would eliminate that "nightmare" from their memory.

Wondering why Offenhague isn’t considered the first choice run on replacement. If TPJ goes up to the front row then Joe comes in at lock, where he played the final 4 games of last season..not even his coach mentioned him.

Indeed. Carrigan & Flegler can only get better with more game time.

Hass is a 50-60min front rower and will be better for the extra time on the field. Fafita should be on the field for more minutes also IMO. Both of them posses unbreakable physicis in the mould of Petro, Thorn and Lazarus. They’ll never get fit until they get pushed and they’re going to be better players playing more minutes. It could be a blessing in the development of other players and the Broncos have good forward depth IMO.

Haas is good for at least 25 ;) The bloke practically played two games a week in 80mins last season.

That is a huge blow for the Broncos. Lodge would have played 60 minutes or more. Outside of Glenn, they now have a pack of 20 minute players.

Been downgraded to a partial tear. He’ll be a welcome return for a the run into finals in the second third of the season.

That is tough, for Matt and the Broncos. I wish him a speedy and trouble free recovery, these things are never easy.

Will be a big loss for the Broncos , but at least a couple of their good young guns like Carrigan & Flegler should get some much needed extra game time.
