Big-name NRL agent has accreditation cancelled

By News / Wire

Powerful player agent Isaac Moses has had his NRL accreditation cancelled for breaching his obligations, the integrity unit has determined.

Powerful player agent Isaac Moses has had his NRL accreditation cancelled for ‘procuring and assisting’ former client Tim Mannah to lie to and mislead an integrity unit investigation in 2017.

On Tuesday night the NRL concluded disciplinary proceedings against Moses for breaching his obligations as an agent, determining that his accreditation should be cancelled.

Moses manages some of the highest profile players in the NRL including Cameron Smith, Aaron Woods and David Klemmer through his company, Cove Agency.

An investigation by the NRL’s integrity unit has accused Moses of assisting Mannah to give evidence that ‘was false and intended to mislead an investigation of the NRL integrity and compliance unit’ back in 2017′.

“Player agents have a very influential role in the game and with the players they represent,” said interim NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo in a statement.

“Where agents fail to adhere to the standards expected of them, we will intervene to take action under the NRL rules.

“That is what we have done in this case after a thorough investigation by the league’s integrity and compliance unit.”

Under NRL rules Moses is allowed to appeal and will be free to continue acting as an NRL agent pending confirmation of an appeal.

Wasn't it only a few years ago the NRL made all agents and agencies become accrdited to be able to work with them? I see your point though, there must have been a mutual agreement of standards of practice that enticed the agencies to sign on. Maybe a min % in return?

Holy Moses. I thought all Player Managers were completely honest (LOL) & their prime focus was on their clients. Anthony Milford's manager said recently there were 2 or 3 clubs interested in him. Bet he would fail a lie detector test.

The NRL would be able to exercise the right to not lodge a player contract between player and club if they believe a non-accredited player advocate has been involved in discussions.

They can say they are banned. But can it really be enforced? Nasser is an easy one as he only had one NRL client. But then I'm pretty sure Nasser negotiated SBW's Roosters deal in 2013. What I found interesting is all the NRL media tried to paint Nasser as evil, yet the NZRU were quite complimentary of him when talking of Williams' contract discussions.

I think they did it previously with Sonny Bill's agent Nasar Kodar.

My point is more, how can an employer ban an employee advocate? If it was the RLPA I'd understand, because they are the employee body. But it's a party that is always likely to be adversarial to a player manager, because he represents the interests of a completely different party.

They must do, otherwise they would not be able to cancel his NRL accreditation. I think the real question is, what does that actually mean? I don't know that's he's banned from interacting with players, but I'm guessing he can't be a player rep that goes into bat with the NRL about contract issues, etc. Might be a good question to put to the NRL, TWAS

Can the NRL really ban a player advocate though? Moses job is to work on the behalf of players. Do the NRL have any real authority here?

Too right. He'll be in the background somewhere doing his thing by proxy if he's not allowed to do it himself.

this is a great thing. as well as their meddling the agents hold great power as a source of misinformation to journalists. journos will never speal ill of them as they are the source of gossip and clicks

Double good. But isn't really banned. And even if he is banned his company will still be involved with the NRL.
