VOTE: Super Rugby AU final DIY player ratings

By The Roar / Editor

The Super Rugby AU final is all over, with the Queensland Reds defeating the ACT Brumbies in an absolute belter, 19-16, at Suncorp Stadium.

With the on-field action all done, we want to know who you think was on top of their game in the decider and who failed to step up on the big stage.

We’ve done DIY player ratings for Wallabies Tests, so some of you will be familiar with how this works. For the rest of you, here’s a quick run-down.

Rank each of the 30 players who took to the field between 1-10 based on how well you think they played. If you don’t think they played enough minutes to warrant a rating, just leave theirs blank.

We’ll then pull all the votes together, average them out, and publish the final results on Monday.

If you need a guide to the scores, we’ve got you covered.

1. Had he not played, the team would have been better off. Negatively affected the performance of the side. May God John Eales have mercy on his soul.
2. Anonymous. Was he even there?
3. Did some things that you expect a player to be able to do, but did a whole bunch of other things that sucked.
4. Was passable in patches, but not up to standard in a match of such importance.
5. Performed his role without anything really noticeable happening.
6. Good.
7. Pretty good, actually.
8. Very good.
9. Excellent.
10. Might as well have been 2011-era Will Genia.

So go on, leave your player ratings below, and we’ll publish the full results tomorrow.

Of course he'll go straight through... packing illegally will do that. It used to combatted with a gentle drop of a bind by the LHP, a roll of a shoulder and tupous bonce driving straight into the floor, with the rest of his pack jamming up his arse. Quite painful and dangerous to the THP, but it made him think about being a complete spud in the next scrum

Regarding competitiveness Jez I had the thought that the Brums tactic and culture (assuming they can get the full herd back from the vet) will make them more TT competitive than all Oz teams, including Reds. Thorn has plenty of depth to play with, atm. So the Brums did well with a few reserve graders. They have some great culture down there.

Paulo, the cynical 9 pass is dissimilar in at least one respect. He doesn’t have a 115kg+ ball of beef hurtling at his ribs(or worse) as in the case of the dodger. Dodging is good in my book. It keeps the cleaners honest. And let’s face it – there’s been plenty of dirty cleaning over the last 20 years.

David, I apologise for my rudeness. In my defence I was flabbergasted by what I saw as lazy energy theft. How hard would it be for you to watch a replay and note JOC contributions at key moments, before asking others to fill in the blanks? I’m not talking O’Connor up as Dan Carter, or the mercurial David Knox or QC, but he had an extremely solid captains knock, and, as it happens his ship sailed into port through an 85 minute storm. The most tactical accurate team in Australia led his team for 85 minutes. and he still found a way. And scored the winning try. And happened to lick a few goals. He wasn’t flawless. Neither was Valetini, my man of the match. No one is flawless in a high pressure match. OConnor did more than okay.

Thanks for letting me know. I missed that. I believe I saw him on the far side line cleaning up the Muirhead kick chase.

TC cleaned up that JOC did a lot of defense for his team, I thanked him for that and said I missed it. He also like you was rude, and didn’t bother to read what I had said about defense of Valetini and told me it’s not all about attack, obviously i know this as I spoke about Valetini’s defense. And by key moments do you mean when his team took 2 quick taps and kicked for touch instead of the scrum? And your right I know nothing about the game, I have no experience and no qualifications to talk about the game... but like everyone else I have an opinion, and unlike others I asked for people to clarify what I saw. Most people just say he scored all the points (irrelevant, if he missed every tackle and knocked the ball on every touch but still kicked goals does that get him a pass), sorry for actually trying to establish why people rated his performance so highly.

agree, I never meant to imply that BPA shouldn't be selected, just noting he may not be available

I have no idea re BPAs contract availability for the RC... But, if he is available I'd pick him. Uelese and others will still be developed in camp and off the bench. Noting I don't think he is STREETS ahead, just a nose and so wouldn't be surprised if someone got picked ahead based on time in camp. Obviously need one eye on the future, but it seems to be shooting yourself in the foot to not be able to pick blokes overseas AND any that have signed to go overseas sometime in the future. Really starting to limit options.

David, you know collapsing is illegal right? I'm questioning the double standard of those that are oh so worried about Tupou but ignoring what the Brumbies front row have been up to.

David if you didn’t notice the key moments where OConnor took extreme responsibility for his team, you might not understand the game enough to rate players.

He has to get in between Sio and Lonergan, that’s his space but the size of the guy means he needs to pack at bit of a angle. This is directly against the laws which state “square” at every stage of the packing process. A bit of an angle is not square.

What law is he breaking if he is pushing straight? Like I said he wasn’t boring in if he is pushing straight through them and not into the Hooker.

Noah is virtually zero chance of being first choice Wallaby 10 this year. JOC would have to put in some shockers to get replaced.

Players leave their feet at almost every breakdown that's why the one or two penalties per game are so frustrating.

Very simple answer. Newton’s 3rd law. Now Jez, do I need to explain that to you?
