REVEALED: Paul Green names Queensland team for State of Origin 1

By The Roar / Editor

After a marathon meeting last night new Queensland Coach Paul Green has settled on his side to take on New South Wales in Game 1.

As expected, Reed Mahoney has been included to make his Queensland debut alongside Kyle Feldt. Selectors had a number of tough decisions to make with a host of injuries and suspensions to deal with.

Ben Hunt was overlooked for selection which will be one of the big talking points after last year’s miracle Queensland victory.

Instead of selecting the team by positions, the squad has been announced in alphabetical order as Queensland look to give injured players Cameron Munster, Kalyn Ponga and Harry Grant every chance to make the starting lineup.

There’s also the matter of the judiciary which could be a big problem for the Maroons with Felise Kaufusi needing to defend a tripping charge from the weekend’s NRL matches.

there isnt really a standard return to play time on a sprained ligament without a grading given and we dont know the grade of Munster's injury. Id assume he will be right to play as there has been no indication that it is not a grade 1 sprain, which would see return to play inside a month quite normal.

As a NSW supporter, please pick Opacic... barely first grade standard

Ok, so you have the location and the bunker loaded... NSW do have players out of position but Freddy has chosen them that way. It's on him if it doesn't play out the way he is anticipating.

I can only conclude that Graham is Freddy's next door neighbour

Nat there’s an old Cliche in World Sport - A champion Team will always beat a Team of Champions. The Blues have a lot of players playing out of positions ,for my liking. Not saying they can’t win but it’s going to be an even contest, particularly With Mr Bunker playing a part

Hahahaha, you can write as many times as you like. NSW will always be first game favourites. You have every superstar in the game and a position for all of them...

www.drdavidgeier.com/ask-dr-geier-lisfranc-injury-sports/amp/ Anyone who feels like enlightening themselves on a Lisfranc injury, here’s some info, and relevant to returning to sport. It’s a Lisfranc sprain that Munster has. He only injured it in round 9. If the above article is any guide, suggesting a return to sport anywhere from 4-6 months, would be season over if it was right. Could it be smoke and mirrors by naming him in the squad at all if he is absolutely no chance. Even if he plays, just stepping on his foot (accidentally of course - no intent / no force) would be all it would take to re-injure.

I wouldn't be blooding Walker. He started strong this season but he dropped his bundle a bit when his team were under pressure the other week. This is no disrespect to Walker, but he needs a bit more experience under duress to allow him to learn to counter punch before he is seriously considered for Origin.

Only surprises for me are Joe Ofahengaue, the need for QLD to name in alphabetical order and Freddy’s obsession with Campbell Graham.

I can't believe there isn't a better option than the revolving gate that is Kyle Feldt. Paul Green should know as well as anyone what this guy's effort plays (or lack there of) look like in defence sometimes. Anyone remember the time Kyle Feldt attempted chased down a run away attacker...Nope. There is a reason
