VOTE: Wallabies player ratings vs France

By The Roar / Editor

The Wallabies left it later than late and needed a French howler to get there, but who’s complaining after a thrilling 23-21 win?

With the first Wallabies-France Test now done and dusted, it’s time for you to rate each player’s individual performance.

If you’ve been around The Roar for a while, you’ll know how this works. If you’re a bit newer, here’s the skinny.

Give each player a score of 1-10 based on how well you think they played. You can choose to leave their score blank if you don’t think they were on the field long enough to make a judgment.

We’ll then get everyone’s votes together, average them out and publish the results on Friday.

This is generally what each score should mean.

1. Had he not played, the team would have been better off. Negatively affected the performance of the side. May God John Eales have mercy on his soul.
2. Anonymous. Was he even there?
3. Did some things that you expect a player to be able to do, but did a whole bunch of other things that sucked.
4. Was passable in patches, but not up to standard in a match of such importance.
5. Performed his role without anything really noticeable happening.
6. Good.
7. Pretty good, actually.
8. Very good.
9. Excellent.
10. Extraordinary. Calling them man of the match would be an insult.

So, get voting in the form below!

Why us it that both halfbacks have not improved their passing to the right? Is it lack of coaching or coaching directives or just not taking the time for indervidual practise to strengthen this aspect of their game. If it was Jonny Wilkinson, he would have been and hour early and stayed an hour after official practice time to make sure he improved. Is it the culture? Cheers.

Yeah agreed. Aaron's mindset is on another level though. He is like the Cristiano Ronaldo of rugby

I can say that even though he is a pro already playing for the Wallabies, constant work can really improve this further. He can clearly pass, but you’ll see how snappy Gordon’s passing was on both sides, but only to the left for Tate. He can still improve. He’s still a good player. My understanding is Aaron Smith’s training regime is like Steph practising shooting 3s. It’s one of those cases where it takes a lot of hard work to make it look this easy.

I know he does a lot of work with Genia behind the scenes, so I'm hopeful those things will improve

I have suffered for the Wallabies. I went to the game and then I watched the replay. I haven't really enjoyed a game at Lang Park since 2011.

I think Marika has felt like he has had no support all year.

Taking one for the team can be delivered in many ways. Jake Gordon who played appallingly could have shown leadership, self sacrifice and ultimately just common sense, and gone down, feigning injury to allow a top 9 on. McDermott is way ahead of Gordon atm. The pressure that McDermott put on France at the last lineout contributed to the French confusion which lost them the game. Gordon’s appalling fumble, poor kicking and inability to read the French inside play which lead to a good try were the obvious. The extremely obvious was the totally incompetent error of the forward pass costing us a 7 pointer. He needs a spell in Japan. His errors need to be corrected before he plays for the Waratahs again.

I think too many have been too quick to bag Valentini and “opportunities” is a good phrase- sometimes the line breaks breaks don’t equal the strong runs. He achieved too much in sr not to back him to do well in the WB

Since when is lolesio a “big boy” - 48% of Australians have a parent born overseas. Also, to play for the wallabies they are as eligible as any other Aussie.

I read some of these criticisms of Gordon before seeing the game. They are overstated. He wasn't that slow to pass. I think it's mainly McDermott fans dumping on him.

He had like two full games in the Tahs. Is it enough for you?

I would agree with you about Koroibete, it might just be me, but, I thought he ran across field trying to go forward? I think running hard and straight with supports with him might work.

He was good apart from having a poor pass to his right. He needs to throw 400-600 a day in the off season under supervision. Think Steph Curry practising 3-pointers. In fact he should probably do a light session even the day of a test.

Isn’t that what I said? If he was facing in the right direction the ball was behind him. So he was in front of the ball.

Cooper lives and trains in Brisbane preparing to return to Japan. He should be coaching the backs.

I’d like to see Valentini get more opportunities in gold but he didn’t impress me in the first test. Naiserani played better. Shift him to blindside

Gordon was mediocre at best. Takes way too long at the ruck where by comparison Tate added a bit of spark
