For those of us not in NSW but loving club rugby, will it be shown on Free to Air?

The "accident of geography" is that Wallabies recruitment sometimes includes players selected from places that are not Eastern Sydney.

I agree. In my opinion the solution is for Shute Shield to follow the VFL and NSWRL and organically evolve into the national comp. There are trade-offs, for example it means some famous old clubs will drop out or merge. Ask the supporters of Newtown, Glebe and North Sydney how much this sucks. But this is a proven path in my opinion and the best option available.

I’m not sure why you think Parramatta rebranding themselves as Western Sydney has anything to do with those issues you wrote about?

That's nonsense! The name change isn't the reason for that! Stop being disingenuous.

The Welsh crowd singing Waltzing Matilda at Cardiff Arms Park after the Wallabies were successful back then is a stark contrast to how we all accept defeat in the 21st century.

For those who came in late to this thread, glad you made it, for this annual announcement of The Draw is a crucial and essential part of the world's Rugby calendar. According to certain newspapers and administrators the winning of this competition is rightly regarded as on a par with having the William Webb Ellis Cup in the trophy cabinet. It is only a mere accident of geography that all 23 of the winning squad do not immediately don the green and gold.

Jeznez, South Melbourne to Sydney & Fitzroy to Brisbane come under a different argument than Footscray to Western.

They see no reason to change the club’s famous names. Too right mate, love watching Fitzroy, Footscray and South Melbourne run around.

The Western Bulldogs still hasn’t gelled You mean the Western Bulldogs who after changing their name for the 1996 season have nearly quadrupled their annual members, and prior to covid had increased their average attendance from around 20k 1990-1995 to consistently 25-30k since the name change? Seems to have gelled pretty well everywhere except your mind.

Great to see you're still here Sheek! (I was a regular visitor many many years ago and always enjoyed your contributions). Interestingly my team Eastwood are off to the Hills, but WON'T be changing their name, in contrast to the above :stoked:

That's a great steer to that link mate , thanks - it's so hard to find old footage on the net. What a proud and humble man is Rob Hemming. It also shows up a Golden era of the Wallaby , 4 from 6 against the mighty Boks , a thrashing of the mighty Blacks at their home and knocking over the mighty Welsh Dragons at their home - that can only mean one thing - they were the mighty Wallabies of the 60's and we tend to forget all that.

Would love to see that too but your club is full of imports. Unless you mean the schools, colts and grades of other states?
