VOTE: Wallabies player ratings vs Japan

By The Roar / Editor

It wasn’t easy, but the Wallabies have secured a fifth win in a row for the first time since the 2015 World Cup with a 32-23 triumph over Japan in Oita.

Who shone against the Brave Blossoms, and who faces a nervous wait as the tour heads to the UK? It’s time for you to make the calls.

Here’s how it works: you rate the Wallabies team from one to ten in the form below. You don’t have to give every player a score – if you didn’t catch enough of someone’s performance or don’t think they were on the field long enough for you to make a judgment, just leave them blank and it won’t affect their score. For instance, if you feel Reece Hodge’s 12 minutes before injury weren’t sufficient to give him a fair rating, you are free to do so.

If you need a rough guide as to what each score means:

1. Had he not played, the team would have been better off. Negatively affected the performance of the side. May God John Eales have mercy on his soul.
2. Anonymous. Was he even there?
3. Did some things that you expect a player to be able to do, but did a whole bunch of other things that sucked.
4. Was passable in patches, but not up to standard in a match of such importance.
5. Performed his role without anything really noticeable happening.
6. Good.
7. Pretty good, actually.
8. Very good.
9. Excellent.
10. Extraordinary. Calling them man of the match would be an insult.

Was Connal McInerney’s game-sealing try enough for a high score on debut? Does Quade Cooper get marked down for ‘that’ intercept try? Did anyone deserve a perfect 10 in what Dave Rennie called a “rusty, frustrating” game?

Simply head onto the form below when you’re ready to rate and get cracking!

But it got worse when he was replaced. The replacement was out of his depth...Again. Heaven help you if its right channel attack and you're first receiver. His passes are worse than BPAs lineout throws

See my comment above and add to that the pilfer penalty from a ruck and look at a wider angle on the try and realise he had no hope defending that kick due to the way any player worth their salt could step inside a defender rushing at them.

And what about the kick which he ran half a pitch for, charged down the Japan kick and then tackled the japanese player who fielded the charge down - all in one play one player made us about 5o metres. Balance please in your assessments

You have said this across multiple articles in the roar, but we won nearly all our own line outs and stole a few from Japan. So what exactly was the problem?

We all know why Nicholas plumps for Skelton at every opportunity as he desperately wants him to play against his Welsh. Nicholas knows all to well the Welsh will absolutely dominate him at lineout time. Skelton also makes a Statue look fast. Rennie wont fall for Nicholas Bishops mind games.

GP, The old familiar story, scrappy games make good teams look crap. That was us! Standouts were Macca who came off the bench and nailed his job at lineout and maul. I had no indication of his scrum push but I think he may be a bolter if he can keep the throws up to the mark. Hunter showed that he should have stayed home and watched reruns of kicks in general play mistakes and how that ruins rugby careers. Seriously a grubber in the first half with a 2 man overlap and try line in sight! Urrrgh! Packs at scrum time OK, Lineouts? Well, the old saying "couldn't hit the ground with a rock" could be a motto! Backs well White - struggled with Japanese speed and willingness to never stop. Quade - Missed his mate Kerevi who makes each other look good. A little too much razzle-dazzle creeping in which says Quade of old has dropped in for a beer! Hunter - I am not sure he is a long-term prospect, back to the coaches I guess. Lenny - Is putting the name above the door of 13! He is so inform! Wright - did himself well. Kellaway - I expect the EOYT to be playing 15 unless they pick up the phone for Issie! which is as realistic as calling back KB! Finishers! Samu (1) Macca (2) Swain (3) Tate (4) JOC (5) Bell (6) AAA ( was he on the paddock?)

The backrow apart from Michael Hooper was good. Both a 6.Hooper a 4. Looks like he is starting to fall back to his 2016-2018 form.

Wright missed a tackle ended a try. Defensely all around was poor and gave a poor kick. So much criticisms re Paisami but he was the best defender in the backs and did a lot of cleaning up at the rucking area. He produced a poor kick close to the line but he was told to kick.

Wright a 7? Obviously missed his horrible defence for the try, the silly penalty he gave away, not stepping in when getting the ball wide and getting bundled over the line and the other mistakes.

IMO White was the problem ..... too many 3-4 steps from the base of the ruck which clearly disrupted his runners. He obviously got the message at half time because he stopped it after half time. Paisami may as well have stayed in the sheds. Ikitau was outstanding with every touch or tackle situation.

Paisami had one shocking kick, but his midfield defence was huge. No wow moments on attack, definitely doesn't hold a candle to Special K though, who's every second involvement is a wow moment!. HP is a 5 for me.

Wright played fine, but that defence on the cross field kick try was appalling, so he last a point, back to 5 IMHO

Don't agree, Rodda disrupted the Japanese lineout often, he stole a lot of their throws On their own throw not good enough though.

A few times... At least. Geez. Worst lineout in the world... But at least they're trying right?

Plenty of 5's, and a couple of 7 and 8's. Only one player deserved a 3 - Hunter Paisami. Kerevi was a huge loss for the team.

I put Wright and Valetini at 7s.

Thought they had success defending the Japanese lineout a few times at least.

Quite a few players sucked. We have the worst lineout in the world. That deserves a 3 for everyone who stood in it.
