Gather Round begins in the city of churches with Adelaide hosting Carlton determined to start South Australia’s festival of football with a win. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:40pm (AEST).

With two wins in a row, the Crows are the toast of the AFL, and look well and truly capable of a first finals run since 2017.

It’s up forward where their biggest strength lies, with boom recruit Izak Rankine, veteran Taylor Walker and young talls Riley Thilthorpe and Darcy Fogarty proving a potent combination. The former trio have been too strong for Port Adelaide and Fremantle in the last fortnight, while Fogarty returns from injury tonight.

The Blues are undefeated to start the season despite looking a shade below their best, and have received a major boost at the selection table with midfield trio Sam Walsh, Matt Kennedy and Blake Acres all returning to face the Crows.

However, experienced defender Sam Docherty is a major loss with a knee injury – given the strength and form of the Crows’ forwards, that could be a costly absence.

We still look like a middling team that may break even in games for the remainder of the year at best. First time really tested last night and crumbled under the pressure. Could be another 9th placed finish or worse unless there is some substantial improvement.

All 'substantial'. It is Adelaide that makes them look less so.

I for one thought that Port Adelaide's insipid pastel blue outfits were definitely holding them back in their early days.

In my opinion, anyone who beats Carlton deserves a medal!

8 goal each draw with Tigers, narrow win over Cats who lost 3 in a row, and two narrow wins over cellar dwellers, followed up by a belting tonight. Haven’t seen anything to get excited about yet but at least we have 14 premiership points in the bank. Just haven’t seen anything yet to suggest we are finals bound let alone top 6.

Not often I'll be pumping up the Crows, but watching them monster Carlton... that was a beautiful thing

Really impressive performance from the Crows Their ball use in the 1st quarter was pure and elite. They also managed to absorb Carlton counter punch in the 2nd quarter. Very good young side in the Making Silvagni is not an AFL standard 2nd ruck. Plowman is VFL footballer. Midfield think because Walsh was back could take a night off ?

Of all the things to focus on in a loss like that, you've started with the clash jumper? I'm genuinely interested in anyone thinking that a clash jumper makes their side play differently, let alone worse. I'm with you on the lack of intensity though. That first quarter...

How Brisbane ever let him go, I’ll never know. I wasn’t much of fan of hinge while he was a lion. He calmness was quite evident live tonight. He’s clearly improved in Adelaide

hey peter, think quite a few clubs this year including mine will have real blocks of wins but also runs of poor form and losses, we will prob have maybe 3-4 flag favorites throughout the year,so plenty of time to go yet

This was a statement game, eyes of the football world upon us, and as usual we didn’t come to play. We lost the moment we donned those insipid clash guernseys, and brought in Plowman (that’s when I turned off). Skills have been deplorable for 15 years, lack of intensity, and mental and physical (McGovern; Pitto; Martin; Cuningham; Marchbank; Williams) resiliency in half the group, and still haven’t got any decent, consistent small fwds. Going nowhere …

I said this last year as well but theres alot of Port Adelaide in the previous years in Carlton at the moment and last year, when things are on there terms they can look like world beaters but when you take that away from them they seem to struggle for a plan B and when the big games come they seem to forget to turn up which is what we did in those 3 years we had a real good run but could capitalise. Still early days though this year.

A bad one don. And last weeks last Qtr was very very ordinary. Should have put the Nth Melb. To the sword. I knew then we had some serious issues .
