The 2023 Trade Period heads into its third day, and the moves have already begun to flow. Join The Roar for a live blog and rolling coverage of the day’s news, rumours and action from 9am (AEDT).

Day two saw the first trade of the silly season take place, with Melbourne premiership player James Harmes heading to the Western Bulldogs in exchange for a future third-rounder.

The other move was Ben McKay officially landing at Essendon as a restricted free agent, with the Kangaroos receiving pick 3 as compensation.

Plenty of moves still need plenty of work from both parties to be completed, with the Demons knocking back Sydney’s first offer for Brodie Grundy and Hawthorn and Richmond at early loggerheads over wantaway Hawk Jacob Koschitzke’s trade value.

Contracted Docker Lachie Schultz’s trade request to Collingwood will also leave both parties wheeling and dealing for days to come, with Freo reluctant to lose the talented goalsneak.

without that travesty we don't get the epic at Subi in week 1 of the finals in 91. one of the great games/finals/Hawthorn moments not saying it was right. it was wrong. but their mistreatment changed things. a bit, at least

I think it is better to have more than you need that not enough.

I get your point. Just don't think we need as many 1st round picks as you do. You'll be proven right if we are still down the bottom in 4 years time. But then we'd get some priority picks :silly:

Yep those top draftees you mention are good players but they are 1 player. Take Norths futurefirst with the late first round picks and you still get a top 5 pick plus multiple others

Hey Tim. I had a thought for north and west coast fans to get the deal done. Noiera could give pick 3 to Melbourne for picks 6 and 11…then give west coast picks 2 and 6…they will then keep picks 1 and 11…they could also use picks 15 and 17 for geelongs pick 8. Then they would have picks 1, 8, 11 and 18…Melbourne would have pick 3, west coast 2 and 6 and Geelong picks 15 and 17…a win all round. Thoughts ?

Why would the Blues want 8 when they already have 17?

Ok let’s play your numbers game Macca. Oscar shouldn’t have slipped that far. Same draft. Rayner, LDU, Brayshaw and Cerra in the top 5. We need mids so my point is already proven but lets look at your other drafts. 2016 – Taranto and McCluggage, could even say McGrath better mids than anything you mentioned. Shache out here copping strays, went 2. But Weitering, Mills, Oliver and Parish make up the rest of the top 5. Eagles will accept 2 and 3… should be a future 1st as well if they beleive Harley is the next Judd.

Perhaps club development/ coaching is the issue there, rather than drafting.

According to Santamaria of the West, North would trade 2 and 3 for Reid and Darling!

Santamaria of the West is suggesting, in the heights of ludicrousness, that NM would give up 2 and 3 for 1 and Jack Darling!

Some are successes, some aren’t - that’s the point. Every draftee is a bit of a lottery - you want a 1 in 20 chance or a 1 in 7?

Seems to be lots of numbers in the top 10 of each year you left out. Are they the successes?

How gracious of you. Speaking of Graham Wright reminds me of the inequity of the end of the 1990 season for the Eagles. Will never forget or forgive.

We're gladly paying up in the knowledge that by getting him out of the door we ended up winning a flag after 13 years. More importantly, lesser lights have a medallion around their necks without all the unnecessary media hype that goes with players like him. Good luck Brodie and Collingwood let's give back-to-back flags a shot. Thanks Graham Wright-no more ridiculous contracts at the Holden Centre. We've learnt our lesson, Charlie!

Maybe Billings, Khamis, or McKenzie if he can get over soft tissue injuries
