The fifth day of the 2022 trade period finds many trades in limbo, as teams hit sticking points on the price of their stars and other trades must wait until all is resolved to move forward. Join The Roar for a live blog and rolling coverage of the day’s news, rumours and action from 9am (AEDT).

After frequent movements over the first three days, Thursday saw lethargy set in as teams begin to prepare for more difficult negotiations that will likely last until next week.

The Western Bulldogs and Brisbane have reached an impasse on Josh Dunkley, with the Dogs unhappy with the Lions’ current reported offer of their pick 21 and next year’s first-rounder for the reigning best and fairest.

The Bulldogs are reportedly happy to see Dunkley walk to the pre-season draft should a deal not be struck, which would make it difficult for him to reach his destination of choice with the Lions well down the pecking order; threats of this nature have been made before and rarely follow through, however, so it remains to be seen whether either of them will bend as next Wednesday’s deadline draws closer.

Ditto the Bulldogs trading for wantaway Fremantle tall Rory Lobb, with the Dogs’ offer of pick 30 for him rejected. This deal seems only feasible now if the Dogs receive more than their current offer for Dunkley and accept it, which could see one of their picks sent west in exchange for the experienced forward.

Dunkley isn’t the only one threatened with the pre-season draft, either; Collingwood claim that Geelong are offering too low a deal for young forward Ollie Henry, with an offer as low as pick 38 suggested for the one-time pick 17.

With Jack Bowes’ deal also causing controversy – the AFL won’t sign off on the Suns giving Bowes and their pick 7 to Geelong unless the Cats are willing to part with at least a second-rounder as well.

Throw in Brodie Grundy to Melbourne, Luke Jackson to the Dockers or West Coast and Jacob Hopper eyeing Richmond, some of the trade period’s biggest names also await new homes. How many of them will get there this trade period- and who will have to risk it all in the draft?

That may be your opinion but its not true for all teams that showed an interest. Geelong has been interested in Bowes for a number of years. Would they have taken on $1.6m of contract without an incentive to do so? No, that’d be silly. But to categorically say no one cares or actually wants Bowes is wrong.

Well not entirely, the Bowes deal, regardless of where he went, was an auction for the price of his contract, not a trade of a typical nature. Ultimately Bowes himself wasn't the goods it was the pick, that's the stinky bit IMO.

Yeah but he doesn’t want to end up at Nth. He was also happy at the Pies. Came to the Copeland and had a great time despite already nominating to go play with his brother at home.

I agree 13th. My comment was a reply to PtS who said he was being overpaid by Carlton.

Draftees are not signed to 1 year contracts. JHF still has a year on his contract.

Been forced out to a wing a fair bit instead of his natural inside mid spot. Finished the year well and the blues want to keep him, has upside

Food for thought for sure. With Amon leaving that opened up a wing spot.Have Josh Sinn 1st round draft pick he is a left footer also and has some wheels apparently, can play half back/wing type role.Duursma Bergmann probably fight it out for the other wing.Could run Sinn off half back and Hunter on the wing.I like it

See I'm not sure what you'd think as a West Coast fan Nics, wouldn't you want to just pick the best possible player you can in this draft? West Coast have been crying out for some high end talent for a while, I'm surprised they are willing to jump back. The go home factor is a concern, but to be fair West Coast are a big club, they would back themselves to turn it around quickly, far quicker than North or Essendon.

As much as I liked Cerra, and I think he fits well at Carlton. You'd have to say Will Brodie who is one year older had the better season. We looked a better midfield with Brodie, who we got for peanuts, plus added Matt Johnson with the pick we got, than we ever did with Cerra. I like Cerra, I wish him well at Carlton and hope he does well, as he did do right by the club, but I'm happier with how things panned out getting Brodie in.

Nah not being sarcastic wish him the best & dogs have told him to look for a new home really sad & hope he can find his best footy at another club. Reckon your coach & players would embrace him & Hunter is very capable of a top 10 finish in your B&F. Love all my father/sons l would never disrespect a player of Hunters calibre. Really admire Port let’s hope he ends up playing for your club.

Oh ok,thought you where sarcastic with pick 38,thought he would be worth more than that.See he is 27 .If a Duursma or Josh Sinn Type got dragged into the JHF dealings Port might be able to do something then I think.Dont want either to go though but Hunter would be a good option I think for a replacement
