It’s the last day of the 2022 trade period, and teams everywhere must scramble to get their last-minute deals done or miss out completely. Join The Roar for a live blog and rolling coverage of the day’s news, rumours and action from 1pm (AEDT).

Unlike previous days, which began at 9am (AEDT), the AFL’s desire to push things right to the wire will allow trades to be lodged only after 3pm. However, teams are still allowed to negotiate outside those hours, but it does mean the first trade won’t be official until at least that time.

A series of major trades still need to be undertaken, with the Western Bulldogs looming as major players. They will have to decide whether to accept Brisbane’s offer of pick 21 and a future first-round selection for wantaway midfielder Josh Dunkley, or let him walk to the pre-season draft.

That in turn could decide whether they have sufficient stocks to lure contracted Fremantle forward Rory Lobb across the Nullarbor.

Elsewhere, Collingwood have a similar decision on young forward Ollie Henry, whose desire to get to Geelong is sufficient that he will walk to the draft as well should the Magpies not facilitate a trade. The Cats’ pick 25 is their final offer – will the Pies bend?

Speculation is also raging at Hawthorn, where experienced midfield duo Tom Mitchell and Jaeger O’Meara are both exploring trades. Both are still contracted for 2023, but with talks underway to send Mitchell to the Magpies and O’Meara to one of Fremantle or GWS, a deal that satisfies the Hawks could see them shift one of both of them out.

Of the rest, Geelong’s Esava Ratugolea, Gold Coast’s Jeremy Sharp and Brayden Fiorini, Essendon’s Aaron Francis and Melbourne’s Sam Weideman are also names up for grabs, though all bar Francis are under contract. They’ll play second fiddle to the number of major trades still to be undertaken, but should all find new homes, this trade period will officially have lived up to the hype as the busiest in recent memory.

It’s just “recruit” for now but Acres is exactly the player we need. The wings were probably the biggest hole in the Blues list with limited players like Newnes, O’Brien and Cottrell being used. Acres is significantly bigger than all 3 and lays more tackles and wins more contested ball and on multiple occasions this year was able to get 25 possessions plus which the others rarely if ever did. Perfect recruit for the Blues. You are right it is all just speculation and who knows how it will play out but the fact the Blues supporters can explain exactly how their recruit improves their side but Pies supporters can’t vindicates the ranking of the Blues above the Pies.

Let's revisit in 11 months and we'll know for sure. It's the same for every team - we're the recruits a success? How will the Carlton recruits improve your team?

Thanks. Guess we need a higher profile deal to fall over to get everyone’s attention. Imagine if something like the mega trade or Dunkley deal fell over because they submitted a minute late.

'Better version'?!? Grundy's form since he signed his million dollar a season contract, has been very poor and riddled with injury. What makes you think that he has the ticker for ultimate glory now that he's already guaranteed himself the big bucks?

Thanks Bretto but you answers confirm my reservations - swapping Hill for any of those doesn't seem a net gain. Howe Murphy and Moore was a key component of your success and their ability to intercept allowed you to play Noble, Quaynor, Maynard and Daicos to rebound fast - Frampton changes that balance. And Mitchell simply covering for injuries or allowing others to rest agains means you change tha balance of your side and likely lose another small forward out. It will be interesintg to see how it comes together but right now it seems you grabbed some depth players who don't improve your team.

Good question Macca. I haven't seen much of Hill or Frampton - but seems Hill is a small forward playing for a place amongst Elliot, Hoskin-Elliott, McCreery, Johnson, Ginnivan depending on injury, form, conditions, and opposition. Johnson plays taller but may have a challenge with both Mihocek and McStay in. Frampton key back releasing Howe to purely intercept and possibly pushing Murphy or Noble out depending on the size of the opposition forward line. Mitchell purely midfield so on rotation amongst the other mids. Provides depth as someone is usually injured (eg Adams), and also allows you to rest inside mids to let their bodies recover.

Yep. Our structure has clearly been found out and we need a change of gameplan, which I'm sure the coaches know, but you need the cattle to be able to do that. Our gameplan was solely built around controlling the ball because our list was built around midfielders.

“If” which is always a big if, but rioli hopefully lays off the thc and comes straight in to replace robbie and jhf well thats the million dollar question isn’t it if he reaches his potential we have a beauty if not we have a problem. On amon definitely handy but not as good as what some people seem to think, hopefully Josh sinn can walk straight into the wing.

Although I actually would rather gift vouchers. That may be the fact though that I had a practical mother so gift vouchers were far more exciting for possibilitys than what practical gifts were.lol.

So obsessed much Geelong doesn't rate a mention in terms of winning trade period after trading in three players selected in the first round of the draft and also claiming pick 7 in this year's draft .10 players have departed the club with as I mentioned 3 new inclusions that leaves seven to go .Steven Wells strike rate with rookie selections is second to none so I'm looking forward to him uncovering another gem .

Melbourne did pretty well, two first round picks for Jackson and very little for an older, better version of him in Grundy plus a decent wingman in Hunter and key position depth in Schache. Tigers will be up there in betting, hopefully Taranto and Hopper can get to their best and Richmond will be in with a chance. Still pretty light on decent defenders though or?
