The Carlton Blues will aim for a third-straight win against the high-flying Port Adelaide Power at the MCG. Stay up to date with their AFL clash with live scores on The Roar from 7:25pm (AEST).
The Blues were somewhat maligned after dropping their first two matches of the season, but they’ve found another gear since then to even their ledger. Encouragingly, both wins have come in different fashions; they were too hot for Freo to handle in a high-octane Round 3 win, before grinding down Gold Coast in a gritty Round 4 triumph. They face a big test tonight, however, against the reigning minor premiers.
Port Adelaide bounced back from a meek effort against West Coast week to eke out a thrilling two-point win over Richmond. Injuries to key youngsters will test their depth but, so far, the Power look poised to replicate last year’s charge up the ladder and figure to be one of the sides thereabouts at the pointy end of the season.
Robbie Gray’s kick after the siren stole the points for Port last year in a memorable three-point win – their fourth win in a row over the Blues. The Power lost three of their last fives at the MCG, whereas Carlton have lost four of their last seven.

Yeah but it happens, reckon Robbie missed a couple of easy set shots, so did Dixon. Maybe it was a timing thing. Confidence seems to be a perennial Carlton issue, not sure how to fix that.

Kept it in because we kept kicking it to you. To me the difference is best shown by the fact Newnes, Cripps and Williams missed easy goals and Docherty dropped 2 uncontested marks that cost goals.

I was thinking the same thing basically and he made some pretty simple error's, I know so many do it now too but this set shot kicking across the body for goal does my head in.lol.

Woodcock has a lot of "look at me" about him, like he kicks a single goal and celebrates with the crowd like he's won the game or something. I'm not sure about him

Phew good win, don't think we played our best but a wins a win. Poor ol hammer, ot reminded me of Wilbur when he did his knee i think it was and crawled on all fours to get to the interchange bench. Rocky had 40+ in the sanfl, i think Williams may get a chance next ahead of woodcock. Maybe.lol.

SPS could be a success in a forward pocket and that is about it. Why is Murphy playing before Dow ? or Gibbons, Betts and even worse Kennedy.

Will Cripps go with the big dollars and not see finals or will he go home for less and be part of a successful club. The Eagles can’t match the blues dollars. Or will he wait and do a Sam Mitchell ? After the effort yesterday does he want to continue playing with a hell of a lot of B graders.

His first 2 games were both over 300m gained and his next 2 were 269 and 217. He is going at career highs for pretty much every stat this year, as I said 1 bad game isn’t a big concern

Macca, my opinion on SPS is he has the ability to be a very good player - just not as a defender. Whenever he gets the ball he only looks about 20 metres around him. Last night he had 7 kicks but only gained 73 metres. From memory his first kick last night went about 15 metres straight to a Port player. If he continues to play as a defender he needs to kick the ball a lot further - get it out of the oppositions forward 50. I would rather he played through the midfield/wing or even half forward.

Wait until Fisher and TDK are the age of Papley, Ryan and Gray.

The stats show it was simply ball use and decision making that was the difference

Cornes tipped Carlton simply so he could over react when they lost and down play it if they won.

Looks like efficiency is the difference, nearly 10 percent. Port cleaner, better skills. Should have been a lot closer though - disappointing for Blues fans.

Geez...we’re still ordinary and can’t see us getting any higher than 11th. Time to move Betts and Murphy to the twos and blood some younger players as we are going nowhere.

We are battered and bruised.I like the depth of our list at the moment.Still no Rocky or Sam Powell Pepper to be seen yet.Butters and Duursma will be out sometime, heard Houston maybe injured now also.I like Lienert as a footballer, thought he might leave after getting Allir Allir , thought Joel Garner looked solid when he got called upon,Frederick is getting close to a debut I think.Big Sammy Hayes has started the season well in the SANFL,2 bog games by the sounds of it.Woodcock and Williams waiting in the wings up forward and Meade also

Good win on the road, sounds like Charlie got a bit of form back and Georgiades and Marshall gelled well up forward with the big fella. Not sure about the 4 talls up forward if Ladhams gets back in
