A capacity crowd is set to descend on Marvel Stadium as Carlton aim to push their way into the top four with a win over the fast-fading St Kilda. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 7:25pm (AEST).
After nearly two decades in the wilderness, this has been a remarkable season from the Blues. Under new coach Michael Voss, the one-time powerhouse have surged into the reckoning for the premiership, off the back of a brutal midfield and two of the best key forwards in the game in Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow.
Injuries have slowed their progress, but the Blues were still able to make a massive statement in taking down fellow contender Fremantle under the roof last week, and with gun recruit Adam Cerra back into the mix following a hamstring injury, they look to have a stronger side at their disposal.
In contrast, the Saints have had a month from hell, losing three straight games to slide from in the top four mix to tenth on the ladder. With eight games to go, there is time for Brett Ratten’s team to turn things around, but coming off a diabolical loss to Sydney, things are pretty bleak at Moorabbin at the moment.
The Saints have welcomed back ruckman Paddy Ryder and outside runner Bradley Hill for this match, after the pair were at the centre of media speculation following their absence against the Swans last week. Along with them, Jack Higgins is another of four inclusions, with the goalsneak spending only one match out of the side after being a surprise omission.

Carlton were beaten by a side who matched & raised them in the midfield. Kicking 18 behinds (5 also out on full) didn’t help… Carlton are in trouble & west coast finding form. Blues may find themselves out of the 8 after the Geelong game round 8. Freo did what it needed to do today & it’s hard to see them exiting the top 4 from here. Mind you the saints V Freo is definitely Game of round next week IMO. Carlton must win next Sunday , or I think it’s another year watching September from the fence with a pie & beer ..

Have to admit I'm unaware of Kath Loughnan - doubt I've ever heard her in action. I do like Kellie Underwood's broad aussie accent and enthusiasm but realise I'm in the minority there. Men, in particular, seem to find her hard to take. I, on the other hand, applaud her. Poor old commentators at the mercy of all of us who could, of course, do so much better. I find Cameron Ling very hard to listen to - he nags. Phil Liggett (bike-racing) is so far ahead of everyone else it's definitely a cigar for him. The overdone quivering, emotional commentary for State of Origin is almost funny. It's only a game blokes, not the start of WW3.

Going to be wet up there apparently Brendon so that makes it a raffle a bit

Port will have the ball in their forward half a lot. It's a part of how we play. Most of those "forward entries" are kicked by Freo players switching play and spreading wide. Carlton closed down our spread last week. The F50/D50 elements were just statistical. My biggest worry today is the allocation of Matt Stevic to officiate. This concern is magnified by the glaring attempt by umpires to manufacture a Carlton win last night.

I have to admit, I do like BT. He's my type of silly humour. Not to everyone's taste. I'll still take a Kath Loughnan, though. She brings a different 'skill set' to the screen.

I think BT is great. Funny, original and – listening to his commentary – actually has a great command of our language, speaks with originality and humour. I suspect he’s a reader (unusual these days). Which can’t be said for any of the others (maybe Richo) who spout endless cliches and Hallmark Greeting Card inanities or sound like nagging retired teachers. Here’s to BT, long may he entertain us. :stoked: :stoked: :stoked:
