Collingwood and Carlton meet at the MCG in a match that has the Blues’ season on the line. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:50pm (AEST).
The Collingwood machine continues to roll through 2023, with the premiership favourites on target for top spot and a premiership win that would have the Pies faithful in raptures. Even the quality of the Power was overcome last weekend in one of the best matches of the season, with Craig McRae once again pulling the strings in the coach’s box and finding the solutions in eking out a two-point win.
Carlton are charging toward the finals. Big winners against West Coast last time out and coming into this match with five wins on the trot, the Blues have rediscovered their early season form. The loss of Harry McKay appears to have brought Charlie Curnow to life, and the team is playing as well as it has since the early stages of 2023.
Team news sees the Pies in almost perfect health heading into the final stages of the home-and-away season. Brodie Mihocek and Darcy Cameron come back into the side as Billy Frampton and Ash Johnson are left out. It’s not so pretty for the Blues: with McKay already missing, Sam Walsh joins him on the sidelines with a hamstring problem and Jack Silvagni is also an injury omission.
Better news sees Patrick Cripps right to play, with Adam Cerra and Jack Martin called back into a squad that does require boosting.
Prediction
This simply looks a bridge too far for the Blues, with Collingwood the cream of the AFL crop and the injuries set to disturb what has been a decent run for Carlton.
It might be close early on, but the Pies will do enough and manage a 40-point win off the back of a dominant second half.

If we totalled Brownlow votes over the last 10 games, he'd be right up there with the faves.

You’ve got your head in the sand bro. First decision is to dump dud Lipinski, bring in and leave Johnston in. I mean, how would you like to be treated like Johnston has been . I think he is classy and has PERFORMED. It has been a monumental error and I called this out before . I am appalled with selection . These changes must be implemented as a minimum. Lipinski out for the rest of the season and Johnston in for the rest of the season

No you don’t NEED a loss. You must first stop playing duds that should not have been in the team in the first place. And we need to refresh the aged players. We need exuberance now. Omg I can’t forgive them leaving out Johnson. And yes Bobby needed .. a must. We have to get selections right and the spotlight on waning players. Ginnivan might need to be tried but he ain’t a runner. Cox may have to go for Frampton for the next 2 weeks. I’m also cooling on Markov . Looks like Nick needed in back line at start of game. Moore jaded looking. BTW I don’t think Harrison is an answer. We just can’t sit back

I'm being rational .. no panic ..as a minimum just want Lipinski out and Johnston and Bobby back in . Joe the blind miner can see that too. Other concerns remind me of what Adam Cooney said on that after the game footy show a few weeks ago. He said that if a player missed more than 4 matches, they struggle. Howe and much à overrared Mcstay anyway, may struggle in finals. Aside from that, Mitchell is a significant concern still . We are not on top of the ground so rest the team with light work. It's just critical to remove the duds, that's clear. Markov experiment not working . Ginnivan may be needed . Its still.a Geez.

It’s one loss. There is no need to panic just yet.

Called top 4 at about round 5. Didn't look likely again since then until now. No player more dominant than Cripps when he turns it on.

Howe went forward because we were lacking there .. it was a stark reminder… the footy department made a shocking error in leaving Johnston out. I pointed this out in earlier posts. Johnston would have straightened them up too. Lipinski didn’t give a yelp and won’t either. It will be a serious lack of judgement to play him again. Bobby in and Lipinski out I want Cox out for Frampton in. So, Will HE in. Then there is Mitchell , is he waning? Geez, more to be done :unhappy:

I said after we beat Port we would beat the Pies and lose to the Saints and get 5 goals up against GWS in a must win match and lose to a 70m toro in the last minute from Toby Greene to just miss finals again.

Carlton travelled to Perth and thumped Freo in home deck then came back and did a similar number on the so called unbeatable port .

Great win Blues.

I admire him for keeping his form strong and taking whatever chance he is given over a long time. If he gets a chance here or somewhere else he will be a decent player.

Blues well undermanned.
