The Collingwood Magpies and the Fremantle Dockers meet in Round 11 AFL action at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 1:45pm (AEST).
The longer the 2019 season runs, the better the chances of the Collingwood Magpies appear after the disappointment of a loss in the 2018 decider to West Coast.
Their run to the ‘grannie’ has been proven to have been no fluke and the squad looks strong across the park. The Magpies are paying with precision, determination and confidence; a dangerous proposition for opposition teams.
Ross Lyon’s Fremantle have been one of the big improvers in season 2019. Sitting just inside the eight after ten rounds, not many thought the men from the west would be as competitive as they have been to this point.
The last gasp win against the Lions last week was representative of their improved fortunes and after three straight losses, it was much needed.
Collingwood have strung seven wins together and not tasted defeat since the 6 April. They will look to expertly use the familiar space of the MCG to dissect the Dockers and claim their ninth win of the season.
Boosting the home sides’ chances are the returns of Travis Varcoe, Darcy Moore and Jordan De Goey. With Adam Treloar dominating between the arcs, the Pies look set to ask the most imposing of questions to the Dockers today.
Lyon has named an unchanged team from the one that grabbed the points against the Lions last weekend. Michael Walters, enjoying a stellar season, and Jesse Hogan will once again be key for Fremantle up front.
With Collingwood sure to score freely, the question will be whether the Dockers can post a winning score on what looks like being a cool but clear afternoon of weather for this match.
Prediction
Looking like potentially the most complete package playing in the AFL at this point in time, Collingwood should have too many guns for the Dockers.
It is a chance for the visitors to make a real statement on the road, yet it is hard to see the purple haze putting enough points on the board to worry Nathan Buckley’s machine.
Collingwood by 6 goals.

With players like Fyfe, Walters, Mundy, then all the players that fell in their lap like Hogan, Lobb, Brad Hill, Hamling, Wilson, McCarthy, even Matera there's no real excuse for not being in the top 45% of teams.

So in other words you are going to be incorrect this year, because you certainly didn’t tip them for the eight at the start.

Nearly lost at home to Saints and Lions, blew the match against the Suns. If not for Walters they are 4-7.

Ballas will change your mind as he returns to Peel today. Sandi/Darcy in the ruck is urgent. We will be a 5 goal better side with first use out of the centre. Lobb up forward will free Hogan to be the player he can be.

As hard as it is to say Ballas and Sandi are done. Lobb/Darcy is the new ruck vombo, and Switta the pressure forward

You always say *insert team name here* is not that great

I've been correct about Fremantle for the entire time I've been on this site. They should make finals with that list they have, but the coach still reverts to negative tactics.

No. But next week will.

I did watch Roughie and he was pretty good.

If it’s par for Fremantle, and a very very very easy year, then why have you tipped them to finish down the bottom? You’ve also said in the past that they have not recruited well. Now all of a sudden they have the best backline, midfield and forward line according to you. I’ll say it again: statistically you should have guessed something right by now. That’s how bad you have been over the past 3 years.

West Coast were a 10 goal better side after 1/4 time but their finishing was terrible. Completely controlled general play but didn't convert. Would have been a choke if West Coast didn't win. Collingwood were a non factor. The match would have been lost on the Pies boots.

If you can't play finals with such a stacked backline, midfield, forward then there's something wrong. Finals are par for Fremantle. It's a very, very easy year.
Don Freo
Roar Rookie
Watch out now that Blakely has a couple of games under his belt.
Don Freo

Anon has always said we have the best team and should be winning...apart from when we win and then he says Freo had no opposition. As for you, Pearce, Suban, Johnson, Sheridan and Sutcliffe haven't been factors for years. The only times they got games were when we had injuries (apart from Johnno who was a gun). Freo miss Sandi and Ballas big time and when they are back, we go from finalists to Grand Finalists.
Don Freo
Roar Rookie
If you listened to King's commentary, you'd realise he doesn't rank Freo at all. He sounded like he had a very substantial bet on the Pies. He never, at any stage, realised that Freo was a chance. You also seem unaware of Lyon's lack of interest in anyone but Freo.

I heard sier and the coaches have fallen out due to what they see as dedication issues.
