Dylan Shiel will play his 150th game as the Essendon Bombers look to make it three on the trot against the suddenly good again North Melbourne Kangaroos. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 4:35pm (AEST).

Essendon are shooting for their 100th victory in 158 matches against the Kangaroos in this one, and just a month ago, you would have said that was as close to a sure thing as there is in footy.

But now, with Brad Scott shown the door and Rhyce Shaw righting the ship for North Melbourne, their finals aspirations are suddenly re-ignited, and this match promises to be a good one.

While the Kangaroos getting one over St Kilda last week was maybe more or less expected, their absolute flogging off the Collingwood Magpies two weeks ago wasn’t.

They beat the 2018 grand finalists by 44 points, limiting the Magpies to just 37 of their own, and the effort and intensity on defence was great to see.

There is still plenty to do to convince this is a finals-bound and consistent footy side, but the Roos can build positively on the last fortnight, with the players responding well to change. They currently sit on 28 points in tenth spot.

One place ahead of them is the Bombers, who have also run into some nice form, winning four of their last five. They have played a number of home games, but back-to-back wins over the two Sydney based sides in the last two weeks really puts them in a good spot moving forward.

The closeness of both matches also illustrates they have been playing fairly well under pressure, and that’s something they can take into today’s game.

It really does feel like it could go either way with very little to split the two teams at their best, however, accuracy in front of goal will be a factor for two sides who do have the tendency to spray it around.

For that reason, marking up on Ben Brown and Shaun McKernan respectively up front will be critical.

Where Essendon may struggle though is in the ruck. They have big injuries there, and Todd Goldstein has been on fire for the Kangaroos. With Ben Cunnington for support and a strong midfield, a significant in hitouts will cruel the Bombers.

Prediction
I’m going to take the Kangaroos to continue their winning ways. They appear to have too much in the midfield, with Ben Brown to capitalise and kick a bag.

Kangaroos by 8 points.

Thanks for joining me here on The Roar for our live coverage of this one as the Bombers came from the dead to beat the Kangaroos. Hopefully you enjoyed the call. Saturday's action continues right now as the Suns take on the Crows and Cats take on the Saints. I'll be back at 9pm (AEST) with Manchester United and the Perth Glory. Bye for now.

Thoughts on the game Roarers? What a game that was. Could have gone either way for the most part... Bombers were out of it, then the Roos were out of it, then the Bombers again, before McDonald-Tipungwuti told everyone how it was going to be. Bombers 12.14 (86) Kangaroos 12.9 (81)

WHAT. A. WIN. Massive credit to the Roos; gave an almighty scare, and a very very solid performance from them. But AMT; he disappears every now and then, but pulls out moments of magic like that! Amazing!!

FULLTIME Desperation from the Bombers. They do the job in defence as the ball comes out to the wing off the bounce, and they are going to hold on, coming back with a goal inside the last half minute to McDonald-Tipungwuti to take victory in an absolute thriller! Phew! What a game. Bombers 12.14 (86) Kangaroos 12.9 (81)

Q4 0' - GOAL BOMBERS, ANTHONY MCDONALD-TIPUNGWUTI Into the final 50 seconds. McGrath wins the clearance, but it goes straight to the Roos who clear, but back to McKenna who goes inside 50. It's to Fantasia who snaps across the body. Falls short, Laverde gets it to McDonald-Tipungwuti and HE HAS SCORED! What a brilliant piece of work. Got left for a second and then snaps on a tight angle! Who else? What a game. 17 seconds on the clock. Bombers 12.14 (86) Kangaroos 12.9 (81)

Q4 0' Jed Anderson kicks away for the Kangaroos, then Zurhaar takes it off the bounce and that ends out of bounds. Bombers 11.14 (80) Kangaroos 12.9 (81)

Q4 1' Goldstein hits out off the long kick forward, then Simpkin is wrapped up and we have a ball up. Bombers 11.14 (80) Kangaroos 12.9 (81)

Q4 1' Saad again. He goes inside 50 again, but that goes straight back to the defence, who will clear again. Brown playing back up the ground, but he can't get onto that. He does get it eventually, and his kick is taken by Saad, who gets around Zurhaar, before the ball is hit back inside 50, but finds Thompson this time. Bombers 11.14 (80) Kangaroos 12.9 (81)
