The GWS Giants welcome the Fremantle Dockers to Manuka Oval today looking to gain a fourth home-and-away win for the 2019 season. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 1:45pm (AEST).
Leon Cameron’s side are looking the goods in 2019. From the opening four rounds, they have only dropped the one game.
Last week they showed their worth, defeating the Geelong Cats by four points, at what is considered to be one of the toughest grounds to prevail on for opposition sides – GMHBA Stadium.
Stephen Coniglio continued his sensational form. The midfielder reeled in 34 disposals, and if you saw his pre-season, it would come as no shock that he is having a big impact for the Giants in the early parts of 2019.
Josh Kelly was also very solid, finishing the game with 32 possessions. Jeremy Cameron and Jeremy Finlayson both kicked three majors each to round off the victory.
In team news this week for the Giants, Callan Ward is forced out of the side due to a knee injury. Jackson Hately will make his debut.
As for the Dockers, they are coming off a disappointing 13-point loss to the West Coast Eagles.
The Western Derby threatened to blowout, as the Eagles did look the goods early, but Ross Lyon’s side did find a way to fight and get back in the game.
However, it was not enough, but there were some positive individual performances. David Mundy was excellent, as he finished the game with 36 disposals.
The forwards also showed promise, with Matt Taberner, Michael Walters and Cam McCarthy all finishing the game with two majors each.
In team news for the Dockers this week, Lachie Schultz is omitted for Nat Fyfe.
Prediction
It is very difficult to look past the Giants here.
They are in such good form, and Fremantle don’t have the Optus Stadium crowd behind them.
The Giants by 33 points.

If you can afford to play Walters in the midfield it shows how much talent you have in your forward line. No excuses for such a strong list.

Leon Cameron made the big mistake of not putting a tagger on Fyfe. This allowed Fyfe from virtually every ruck to orchestrate the breakdown of the Giant's defence. By the fourth quarter Davis et al were buggered and Freo scored 6 goals. Cameron had the wrong strategy: he thought he could play his usual rebound game using the Giant's excellent defensive quartet to win turnovers; had Whitfield and Kelly there in the hope that they and Zac Williams could run it out and kick to their forwards before Freo could recover. This worked before, however the trouble this time was that Ross Lyon was ready: he had Fyfe and co kicking beautifully in front of their forwards who had the moves and skills to nullify Davis & co (mainly by one blocking the main defender and the other taking the mark). The Giants were good enough to hold on for three quarters, but ran out of gas in the last and it was a debacle. Leon Cameron needs to go back to all-out winning in the ruck. Callan Ward is a big loss: he needs a big rover/tagger there to nullify the Fyfe's, Pendlebury's and Gaff's of the comp; together with some better moves for speedy ball distribution and hitting forward targets. It is so much easier to win from being on the front foot from the ruck: Leon was being a bit too complacent relying on rebound from the backline and Lyon caught him out. Fix the ruck Giants or else forget this season!

Haha and yet there was Mikey Walters instrumental in setting up 3 or 4 of those last quarter goals from the midfield. Nice attempt at using your usual selective amnesia to try and avoid scruitiny too. Then there's some first rate straw clutching at a direct answer to a journo's question at a midweek presser. Although in the same vein as Walters, it probably shows the Freo coaching panel aren't as rigidly constrained in their thinking like you are with yours.

If you can't kick winning scores with one of the best small forwards in Walters (possibly best at the moment), Hogan, Lobb, Taberner, McCarthy in their primes, best/2nd best player in the league floating forward then you never will. That Lyon was considering having Hogan in defence speaks volumes of his mentality.

The hilarious thing about this anon spin job is that he's spent a large amount of time in the past banging on (i.e. copying and pasting) that it would make no difference having Hogan and Lobb in Freo's forward line as they wouldn't get it in there enough.

I think your "not...watching footy" is exactly what he's calling you out on.

A top effort, Freo have a good squad it is up to Ross now. Forget talk of playing Hogan down back and release the shackles. Install the confidence and get Tab's head right.

You did that Peter, very clever, i predicted when Ballantyne, Sandilands, Johnson, D. Pearce, Zac Dawson, Suttcliffe and Sheridan were gone Freo would start improving.

Not knowing whether McCarthy played or not sums up a lot about you and your knowledge of Freo. He didn't play, by the way. Was a late withdrawal.

When it's a forward line of Hogan, Lobb, Taberner, Walters, McCarthy (don't think he played), Fyfe floating forward there's just no excuses for not scoring. It's an embarrassment of riches in their forward line.

I told you last week you would win jonboy.

I tipped this in here last week and got on Freo. Just sayin....

Oh yes, more of that would be delightful. I'm seeing them live twice in the next month, so I'm hoping to see some wins for myself.

Brilliant performance by your boys AD. If only they could roll out that sort of form more regularly.
