Jiangsu isn’t the only neutral venue in The AFL this weekend. Darwin is also being brought into play, as the Melbourne Demons take the Adelaide Crows for their biannual venture to the NT. Join The Roar from 7:40pm (AEST) for live scores and coverage.

Last week the Demons trailed for the entirety of their match against GWS, as they became just the third team to ever lose to GWS at the MCG.

The match looked set for a blowout from the beginning as the GWS’ midfield overran the depleted Demons side. Melbourne did claw back a bit of dignity with a late charge that closed the gap to 26 points.

Adelaide meanwhile blew a 30 point lead early in the third quarter against West Coast, as the Eagles came from behind to win by 12 points at Adelaide Oval.

Despite the loss, the Crows remain in the eight, and are hanging on to seventh by percentage at this stage. A win for them would put a neat gap between themselves and ninth, while a loss could have them falling as low as twelfth if things go really badly.

Melbourne sit 16th on the ladder, which is far from where they would have thought they would be after last year’s strong campaign. A win could see them move up as high as twelfth, and a loss would only drop them back one spot to seventeenth.

Happily for The Demons, there are a number of key ins. Michael Hibberd is set to return after his fractured collarbone is now mended and Christian Salem will come back in after missing last week with concussion. Also in for Melbourne is Mitch Hannan.

Harry Petty hurt his knee in last week’s match and will miss this one. Jay Lockhart and Corey Wagner are the others to make way.

Adelaide too, have much welcome ins. Tom Lynch has recovered from his hamstring injury, though he will have to prove his fitness, and Bryce Gibbs and Josh Jenkins have both been recalled from The SANFL.

It will be interesting to see what kind of an impact spending some weeks in the reserves will have had on both Gibbs and Jenkins, and also what kind of an impact they will have on an Adelaide team struggling for form.

Chayce Jones, Elliot Himmelberg and Riley Knight have come out of the squad.

Prediction:
Adelaide will go in favourites, and understandably so given their ladder position, though this fixture last season in Alice Springs saw Melbourne romp home. An upset wouldn’t be the most surprising thing ever, but Adelaide should get the win here.

I'd love to see Adelaide do better but I don't count a 4th qtr burst, against 15th, as a rateable event. Esp as any determination would be manifested by us sitting 3rd.

Jacob, thanks for the actual factual information. Still doesn’t seem right, somehow, just like a Daniher playing anywhere but Essendon.

Adelaide win a qtr against 15th??? Not a hatstand in sight. A hobbled swallow, on the ground, doesn't make a summer.

It was our territory for 50 years and Adelaide is the closest capital city to Darwin.

Dees pushing for Freo's top spot on the 'Anxiety-o-meter', especially when you add in the 'coulda' frustration factor.

General rule of thumb is to just ignore everything David King says, Pete. Or at the very least just take it with a mammoth grain of salt.

Demons season from hell continues. Time to tank for draft picks now. Didn’t David King pick them for the flag?

Collingwood had no picks before Melbourne in the 2015 draft and his Dad didn't play enough for F/S to be a factor.

Yep, because he missed the goal. Sounds like you're the type that doesn't believe in certain moments being more important in any given game, so we're never going to agree on this.

Report: Melbourne led from the start right up until 3 and a half minutes before the final siren. Inaccurate kicking at goal ultimately their downfall. It started well for The Demons with Harmes and Petracca scoring 2 early goals. The first half would keep the frenetic pace with The Demons’ lead rarely allowed to exceed 30 points. Jeff Garlett the only multiple goalscorer in the first half. The second half would slow down a touch as players tired and ball skills got a little sloppy. The Crows pulled the Dees’ lead back to 15 points at the final break. 1.8 was all Melbourne could manage in front of goal in the last as The Crows scored 5.2 to take the front. Tom Lynch and Brad Crouch had 3 goals each. Eddie Betts was instrumental in almost everything The Crows did going forward in the last and finished with 2 goals, as did Josh Jenkins. Sam Weideman had the chance to win the match with the last kick of the match after marking the ball well. However Weideman hooked it left, leaving Adelaide in front by the 2 points. The result means no change to the ladder just yet. Adelaide stay 7th and Melbourne stay 15th. Adelaide may still drop a place or 2 depending on results tomorrow.

To kick 1.8 in the last quarter is a guarantee of bad things to come,i.e. a loss.

Joel, is that because his last scoring shot was not a goal? Will you also drop the players who kicked the other 15 behinds? Each of them also kicked badly enough to lose the game.

How come a Weideman is playing for Melbourne? His grandfather must be spinning in his black and white grave!

So many poor turnovers and clangers. Such a poor standard of a game that was just waiting for Melbourne to choke. Loved seeing Betts spark up in the last quarter, great to see.
