Carlton will have captain Patrick Cripps on deck as they look to upset Melbourne to seal their finals spot – but knocking over the reigning premiers still won’t be easy. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 7:25pm (AEST).

Cripps’ remarkable suspension overturn is a massive boost for the Blues, who find themselves probably needing to defeat one of the Demons or Collingwood to reach a first finals series since 2013.

However, standing in their way is a Dees outfit smarting from last week’s loss to Collingwood, and desperate to keep itself inside the top four for September.

Like Col said we haven’t lost the tackle count in games we lost very often. Missed kicks and dropped marks cost us much more than lack of effort. Owies hits a simple target with 1 minute to go and we win

And like I said, 87 is a once off. Lack of effort is the exact reason we're losing a lot of our games, players are picking and choosing when to give effort. Watch Collingwood the last 11 weeks, they give effort every minute of every game. Compare that to our blokes and it's obvious

My mistake but 87 is 20 higher than the highest average. We aren’t losing for lack of effort

Where did I say below 40. You can keep accepting “honourable losses” but after 10 years of them it starts getting a bit old. I’d rather be a realist and accept what it is, not live in dreamland. The players need a rocket up them for picking and choosing when to give effort, not excuses

We have won the tackle count in 11 games. 5 games we lost the tackle count we actually won the game. 1 game we had the same amount of tackles - St. Kilda.

Stocker can’t run and has no tank. Saw him to try to chase in last quarter. Actually not even sure he was trying the effort looked so bad.

Problem is, where was that effort 1st half last week? Or the Adelaide game. Or the saints game.

I’m sure there’s still some more GWS players you could grab.

Better teams than this cats team have lost GFs before. Pretty common occurrence.

Just have to make a preliminary Tassie and anything can happen with our unpredictable forward line.

Newnes can go, I didn’t mind Stocker especially given his lack of AFL games this year and O’Brien wasn’t as bad as people think. Melbournes wings didn’t have an impact and O’Brien had 4 tackles

You would think we lost by 15 goals the way some are reacting

What do you see in Motlop Pete to say he is a huge talent”

Setters covered pretty well for him I thought. Need to somehow get Newnes, OBrien & Stocker out of the side.

As I said- they see potential. They keep giving him opportunity- others they don’t . Stocker should be given every opportunity. I see huge potential there
