There’ll be no Dustin Martin for the Richmond Tigers as they look to get back on the winners list against the Hawthoren Hawks at the MCG. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:40pm (AEST).

Richmond looked to be in for a long night early in their season re-opener against Collingwood last week, falling behind by 24 points at quarter time. Although they were able to claw their way back, both sides succumbed to slippery and dewy conditions in a sloppy five-goal apiece 36-36 draw. Two-time Norm Smith medallist Dusty will miss tonight’s clash with a rib injury.

Hawthorn, on the other hand, did suffer a long night after getting blown away in the second half by Geelong. The Hawks went into halftime just six points down, but managed one goal in the second half to the home side’s ten in a 61-point drubbing that saw their midfield slammed as “fourth-rate” by coach Alastair Clarkson.

The Tigers have a good recent record against their opponents tonight, having won the previous four encounters by an average of 28 points. But last year’s 36-point win was off the back of herculean efforts by the absent Martin (37 disposals, 10 clearances, two goals) and since-departed Brandon Ellis (35 disposals), giving the Hawks hope of an upset.

"at least it's the right time of the year to put in a shocker" While normally I would totally agree with that, but this season you can't afford any slow starts. The tigers continue playing like this over the next month, they may just kill off their own chances. The other impacts is the unknown of the fixture and HUBS. Not winning now could mean later when the travel becomes an issue could also lead to a case of "Close the gate- the horse has already bolted"

Yep. TOB can def. read where the ball will land but has a bad case of concrete hands. Given the 6 years we're perserved with him to date, any Hawk fan could be excused in thinking he's unfixable.

still pretty young isnt he ? he holds one or two his confidence should grow & he'll start clunking more ... thats the theory anyway. he moves well & gets first hands to them so the makings are there

Lynch's kick on goal looked like one of my golf shots off the tee!

I'll see when they play someone significant. Richmond is not that team this year. Geelong is. There was a common denominator...an unimpressive last quarter. I'd say Hawthorn is not fit. Credit where it's due. It's due to one of your players. I made that point yesterday.

This is a Shield cricketer who has hit one of the most courageous Shield centuries ever...whose father took 10 wickets in an innings...that you say has no knowledge.

Well that’s opened up the season. Tigers looked slow against the “Dads army” Hawks. Lynch was terrible. How do you miss from the goal square on $950K a year? Stack was better but Pickett still looks slow and Rioli surely gets dropped. He has had 12 touches in 2 games. The biggest worry is Jack. When Jack falters suddenly Lynch’s pay packet looks a bit heavy. Castagna a couple of goals but had duck eggs to half time and 5 touches in all. Bolton is a reserves player. Dimma says this side coaches themselves. Perhaps they didn’t during isolation and haven’t trained properly. An in form Dusty is hugely important to them. Hardly any injuries either besides Dusty. Tigers look on the wane. Too early to say Tiger time is over but the wheels are wobbling badly already for some of these Hollywood boys.

It's only tipping...not scriptwriting. Don't be too hard on yourself.

The Tigers looked slow, unfit and didn't put their bodies on the line like they would normally do. I don't think these 8 days breaks help them either given how listless they looked. They were lethargic and not up to it. Not sure if it is due to not being focused or they haven't been training hard enough. Dimma might have to give them a kick up the backside to get them firing again after two lacklustre performances in a row. Quite a surprise how they got belted by the Hawks. O'meara made a big difference to their midfield tonight and you should never write off the hawks. Tipping is proving to be very difficult this season. You just don't know what teams are going to do and I wouldn't be surprised if there are more such upsets to follow this round.

To be fair that was very Richmond like pre 2017…. Perhaps the last few years have been the exception and were un Richmond like. Would love to see them finish 9th like they used too

I keep hoping he'll be able to regularly clunk them but I fear I might never be rewarded for my patience. If he does, he'll be damaging but alas, he may never take the next step

With probably the toughest first 5 rounds the Hawks really needed that win. I was looking at 1-4 after the first five so good to get a win against one of the top contenders.
