The St Kilda Saints travel west for what has long been the toughest task in footy: taking on the West Coast Eagles at their Optus Stadium fortress. Tune into this Perth clash with live scores on The Roar from 4:35pm (AEST).
The Eagles might have broken their three-game losing streak with a crucial win over Adelaide in Round 18, but concerns remain over Adam Simpson’s highly successful team.
The Saints will be boosted by the fact the Eagles have lost three of their last four games at Optus Stadium, an unheard of record that symbolises how far they have slipped from the powerhouse of old. With their finals chances on the line, Brett Ratten’s men can head across the Nullarbor full of confidence.
The Australia-wide COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t reached Perth yet this time around, meaning this match will be one of the only Round 19 matches with a crowd – and it looks like being a big one.
Both sides have some major issues at the selection table this week. The Eagles will be without captain Luke Shuey after he pinged a calf against the Crows, though vice-captain and key forward Josh Kennedy returns after being a late out. Premiership tagger Mark Hutchings is also in for his first game of the season.
At the Saints, the big story is Rowan Marshall, who has been forced into isolation after attending a COVID-19 hotspot. The Saints’ reliance on ruck pairing Marshall and Paddy Ryder has been well documented, with the club’s form turnaround sparked by the big man’s return from early-season injuries. Journeyman Paul Hunter has been named in his place, while high draft pick Nick Coffield is also in to replace mature-aged recruit Tom Highmore (hand).

Miller’s not going anywhere he’s a heart and soul sun. Lukosius and rankine are both SA boys and the only club that has the capital to take them is the crows and they’re a bigger basket case and than the suns. Ben king is the one for my mind, if he goes than the franchise is cooked.

At the game! Crappy reception at Optus (ironically I'm on Optus) and managing a 4yo so no updates haha.

Just getting out of the stadium. The umpiring was ... interesting... 4 points is 4 points. Hope Ryan's hamstrings aren't too bad.

Saints seem closer to a flag tbh… Suns are super exciting in patches, but also have talent galore. Current Saints with an additional 3-4 genuine A-listers would be a huge threat. Once
Richmond/HawthornOther clubs poach any (all) of Miller, Rowell, Anderson, Lukosius, Ballard, Rankine, etc., will be groundhog day over there. Great feeder club, their footy development department is to be commended. The Dom is good

Best game Kelly has played and the saviour Sheed was brilliant. The game was marred by insipid double standard umpiring but the mighty Eagles won in the end
Tassie.

Eagles grind out the win albeit against a Shocking standard of umpiring . Whats paid a free at one end is play on at the other and scraging a player is a free unless its a WCE gurnsey then it play on. We beat a determined saints and the bad umpiring , well done Eagles

As a sentimentalist, I’d like to see Ben King at the Saints. Yes, I’ll regret this if it comes to fruition, but how fun will they make footy to watch?
