Gamesmanship is part of the game. Getting an advantage by tricking the umpire is happening all the time. It’s easy to ignore as it’s pretty rife if you study the play. Not all games but it’s common enough. Exaggeration to get a free is even within the rules if it’s not excessive. Does it make it harder for the umpire? Well one of the umpires was very vocal saying just this during Friday nights game. ‘You make it hard for us when you exaggerate’ was what I heard on my telly. This goes to Dwayne Russel on SEN and his ‘great decision maker’ comments during the past weeks. If the umpires were serious about decision making and who is a good decision maker they would have made sure the grey areas were clarified centuries ago.
