2-0 up in the series following wins in Brisbane and Adelaide, Australia can secure the Ashes with another victory over England in a blockbuster Boxing Day Test. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage of the action from 10:30am (AEDT).

After a crushing 275-run win at the Adelaide Oval, Australia looks set to go from strength to strength in Melbourne, with captain and star fast bowler Pat Cummins almost certain to return after missing the second Test as a COVID close contact.

Shock debutant Scott Boland is the wildcard, with his brilliant first-class record at the MCG enabling the Aussies to tread cautiously around minor injury concerns to Jhye Richardson, Josh Hazlewood and Michael Neser.

Out of form opener Marcus Harris has been retained despite poor returns thus far in the series, with the adopted Victorian likely to need a big innings at the MCG to retain his spot for the rest of the series.

England have rung the changes following their eleventh loss from their last 12 Tests in Australia. Opener Rory Burns, quicks Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad and number six batter Ollie Pope have all been axed, with Zak Crawley, Jonny Bairstow, Jack Leach and Mark Wood the inclusions.

Wood’s return comes after being controversially axed in Adelaide, while Leach has returned despite copping a hammering in the first Test in Brisbane.

Having dominated this series from the very first ball, the Aussies are naturally heavy favourites heading into this game. With a win or a draw all they need to retain the little urn, England will need to pull off something remarkable to keep the series alive for the Sydney New Year’s Test.

If I had the time I would yes. At least 200 of his 335 for starters.

Let’s say he pulls it off. His current form suggest to me he could easily hit 6 tons in his next 14 tests to equal Hayden. Would you waste your time doing some sort of ridiculous analysis to tell us x% of Warner’s runs were worthless?

No, have to weight away performances higher - more difficult, a range of different conditions, and more comparable with your peers in other countries. Still great, but probably behind the likes of Trumper, Simpson, Morris, Hayden.

Yeah Cummins is superior to Starc as a bowler and Hazlewood prolly superior to Starc. Starc's best is equal but not superior to Cummins, though Cummins has his best days more often than Starc. Starc's best is prolly superior to Hazlewood's best, but Strac's worst is far worse than Hazlewood's worst. Cummins worst is not that much below his best.

Starc's opening spell was poor, with too many outside off, and the batsman not having to play at the overwhelming majority. Contrast that with Cummins' opening spell! That's the difference between an alltime great and a middling pace bowler!

Starc’s opening spell was 4 runs off 3 overs, and his second spell began with immediately snaring England’s top scorer for a mere 50. Boland was a debutante who got a wicket, was not expensive, and also showed a safe pair of hands under a skied ball on two occasions. I’d say both paid their way today.

Green and Lyon have 19 overs between them for 30 runs and 2 wickets. Starc and Boland have 22 overs between them for 63 runs and 1 wicket. Who are the disciplined bowlers then?

He has done it against many different types of bowlers...probably close to 100 of them.

Plenty around in Shield cricket. They just need Nath to lose form.

I’ve been impressed by Green’s fielding. Big wingspan, quick reflexes, great catching and run-saving first-time pick-ups. _________________________________________________________________________ The bowling was pretty good although England only had to play at 1 of Starc’s first 19 deliveries. Lyon and Green: 22 overs; 43 runs;4 wickets;2 catches. ______________________________________________________________________________ Looking forward to tomorrow when hopefully Wood scares the Aussie batters.

I believe to some extent he has revolutionised the game. Brilliant field can score runs very fast in the right conditions. Sure he needs to improve overseas, but that can be said for many great players.
