A BBL final berth is on the line when the Sydney Sixers do battle with the Brisbane Heat as both sides deal with the absence of their international stars. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:15pm (AEDT).
After sitting dead last deep into the BBL season, the Heat staged a remarkable recovery to win six of their last seven games and make it through to the last three.
They will, however, need to take down the Sixers without three of the players chiefly responsible for that turnaround: Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Renshaw and captain Usman Khawaja have departed for Australia’s tour of India, decimating the batting order. Spinner Mitch Swepson will also miss with the Test squad, leaving the Heat sorely depleted.
The Sixers haven’t lost quite as many, but they also have the biggest absentee of the bunch: Steve Smith, after a whirlwind stint back in the BBL, is also heading to India, depriving the three-time champions of their biggest star and most in-form batter. He bludgeoned two centuries in just five games, with his lowest score of 18 coming in their Qualifier loss to the Scorchers.
However, the Sixers have been one of the two standout sides all BBL season, and against an undermanned Heat line-up, should be able to overcome the loss of Smith and reach a fourth consecutive tournament final – and third on the trot against the Scorchers.

Had a tree down over the shed but the neighbour and I had it carved up in no time. A few hours of power out but all good now. Some whacky weather!

Gees just heard about your wild weather Sarge. You ok?

I think the Sixers hoped the pitch would bring the Heat down to their level. It sort of worked. Watching Henriques and the other fielders throwing the ball into the turf in bounce returns in the Sixers' narrow win over the Scorchers,(not really in the 'spirit of the game'), showed some nous but put too much emphasis on off-pace deliveries for the victory. Couldn't watch the game, but wondered if they used the same technique?

Trying to find some sport to watch in February. Not that easy. Bring on the tests!

Now that we have settled who is going to lose we can get on with it!

They haven't progressed as players at all. Heazlett has gone backwards over a long sample size. Bryant is not a FC player either. He has been around for years with zero growth as a player

Neser does burn brightly so he'll have to go on the pilot light now. Scorchers haven't got any worse since last week and have to be short-priced favourites. There would have to be an unmatched outstanding performance from a Heat player. Heazlett,Bryant,Brown & Peirson vs Bancroft, Eskinasi, Turner,Inglis & Hardie. Neser,Bazley, Johnson & Bartlett vs Tye, Behrendorff,Payne & Kelly. As Damon Runyon, quoting Hugh Keough, once said " The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong; but that is the way to bet.”

Sixers had most of their team still here too. Full strength minus Smith. At home. Silk on the fielding mic said they had played 3 or 4 matches on this pitch, so they knew how to bowl on it. But not bat, apparently. On paper Sixers should have cruised to victory here. On paper Scorchers should too. We will see. I'm hoping for a close finish.

They’ll need to be a lot more cohesive to beat a Perth side that has most of its team still in the country and is easily the best side in the tournament. Heat’s best chance is to win the toss, bowl and hope to get lucky.

How Heat managed to not lose that must be due to Neser. That is a huge surprise. Generally Heat lose the unloseable games so this was a huge win and making a grand final.

Great win. Everyone wrote the Heat off with the stars gone. And Neser is a bloody good player. They could beat Perth too.

Well that was tough going on a tough pitch. Just needed one player to not panic. Thanks goodness for Neser. Heazlett and Bryant showing appalling lack of match awareness
