A BBL final berth is on the line when the Sydney Sixers do battle with the Brisbane Heat as both sides deal with the absence of their international stars. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:15pm (AEDT).
After sitting dead last deep into the BBL season, the Heat staged a remarkable recovery to win six of their last seven games and make it through to the last three.
They will, however, need to take down the Sixers without three of the players chiefly responsible for that turnaround: Marnus Labuschagne, Matt Renshaw and captain Usman Khawaja have departed for Australia’s tour of India, decimating the batting order. Spinner Mitch Swepson will also miss with the Test squad, leaving the Heat sorely depleted.
The Sixers haven’t lost quite as many, but they also have the biggest absentee of the bunch: Steve Smith, after a whirlwind stint back in the BBL, is also heading to India, depriving the three-time champions of their biggest star and most in-form batter. He bludgeoned two centuries in just five games, with his lowest score of 18 coming in their Qualifier loss to the Scorchers.
However, the Sixers have been one of the two standout sides all BBL season, and against an undermanned Heat line-up, should be able to overcome the loss of Smith and reach a fourth consecutive tournament final – and third on the trot against the Scorchers.
